Well.... its a V twin, so good low down torque, has narrow tyres; good on the gravel, is water cooled , high revving & has shaft drive.
Parts seem to be plentifull & cheap & I make all my own figlass bodywork anyway
    Why wouldnt ya?
Down side is that its probably too heavy & the gearing may turn out to be wrong
I'm sure the weight would be fine for more of an adventure style bike, though? Plenty of those around that are not exactly light.

Very cool Damn you have a lot of excellent projects. Make sure you post it up here once you've finished!

My little CB250RS does pretty well on gravel, but it's silly to mention that because the engine is from an X(L/R)250 anyway, and it's an older-style bike from when there wasn't such a vast difference between those types of bikes.

Im staring at another partly dismantled CX motor & thinking, what if we turn it around 90 degrees & fit a chain & sprockets ala Hondas NS750 dirt tracker?, A near-future project methinks!! Hmmmm........now to find a suitable rolling chassis........

Dad and i are putting together two KLR600s, and were going to put a gGPZ500 motor in one. can't beat a good dirt/tourer. Especially if you're a Dakar fiend.
I now ride a KLR650, but way back in the 80's in the UK I had a KLR600. Back then had engine issues fixed under warrantee, and downstairs in some boxes sent back from the UK, I've just discovered a couple of KLR600 cylinders, just in case that's useful.....

'87 I had from new, seized engine, and while I was waiting for Kawasaki UK to decide if they were going to cover it, I got a couple of 2nd hand ones to either hone or rebore just in case ( And it turns out I've still got them - and they won't fit the 650 as spares :-)
