    Gearbox oil for RG150

I went to Motorad (I think its called in town here) and asked for gearbox oil do to an oil change on my newly aquired 98 rg 150.

They have given me Spectro SX Clutch Save SAE 10w 30.

I have been reading around this thead says it should have 20W 40

    http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/ar...hp/t-2513.html

Is that right and would 20w 40 be better to put in??

    Thanks for ya time!

The spectro SX clutch is a high quality gearbox oil for use in competition 2stroke gearboxes especially MX bikes. It will be fine.

20W 40 sounds like the engine oil, not gearbox oil?

They take engine oil and you can't get a monograde these days.ATF is the best stuff for a 2 stroke gearbox, you don't need the fancy stuff.

Shame on you! of course you need the fancy stuff (all the marketing told me so)
I do agree that ATF is good to use cheap as chips and clutches like it too.
But seeing as he already had the spectro SXClutch he may as well use it.

Peaceful and quiet after Henderson....I'm learning about fog....

ATF is the perfect oil for gearboxes,Mercedes have been using it in their manual boxes since the 50s,and it's made for multiplate clutches too,so even more reason to use it.I only use something else if I have a shifting issue, then you may need a viscosity change.

To further go off topic, I'm recommended 10 or 20W 40 for the Bros, so I presume 15W 40 will be fine also.
