Looking for a new girlfriend; must have only one leg

Got bike home tonight after work; kept hearing this `tink' sound from time to time. Thought it was just heat expansion, but amplified because it was raining. Finally got confused enough to go and take a look.

Looked over the bike and suddenly realised something; the left exhaust is hanging down more than usual. Hmm. Further inspection showed that (can't believe it took me this long to notice!!! ) that I in fact am missing my left pillion footpeg. Presumably it dropped off somewhere today. How odd. And how did I not notice? I'm not too worried about the footpeg going walkabout -- I very rarely pillion my girlfriend anywhere, being on a class 6L licence, but the main problem is the bolt that holds the footpeg in also holds my exhaust up.

Have sort of bodged by sticking a spare engine mount bolt to keep the exhaust supported, but that won't last very long. Of course, I happened to have sold my spare pillion pegs with the rolling chassis I sold to a racer -- will be calling him tomorrow, asking if he still has the pillion pegs (you don't need pillion pegs for a race bike).

What the. I didn't use a torque wrench on the bolts but they were pretty tight. I suppose this is a case of thumper vibes causing bits to drop off? It's not a Suzuki so I never expected that to happen. Either that, or some other CB250RS rider was missing a peg and flogged mine while it was at uni .

You'll need that footpeg for your next WOF too.

That happened on my Kawasaki GPX250... still got one of the footpegs. I took the other one off so it didn't look 'odd', and to pass my WOF before the engine broke

Yep I know I need it for the WOF. I put them back on for the WOF -- for a while I only had the bolts, not the footpegs.

Singles, you gotta love 'em When I first got the bike the seat and number plate bolts came undone. It's got balancer shafts but there still is a bit of vibes, especially when I give it shit. Probably Saturday's blat didn't help. Might go over the rest of the bike with a spanner and check fasteners.

ROFL xerxes, you sure have a barrel of laughs with that CB don't ya?
Gotta love singles, that's for sure. What's yours rev to? Mine revs to around 11,000 and gets a little vibey when I'm up that high in the rev range (quite often ehehe), but by the sounds of things not quite as vibey as yours! I haven't had anything come undone or fall off it yet... and it's a bloody Suzuki as well!

Oh yeah. Funny... I've got two girlfriends, one of them's Japanese and 24 years old, the other one's Chinese and only 20. The Japanese one craves attention; if I haven't pulled her apart recently she will break something or drop something or cause a tantrum so I have to play with her bits. The Chinese one is much less emotional lol.

My redline's at *edit* 9500 or so, however you can take her to 11,000 and higher easily enough, but I don't enjoy doing that (too much mechanical sympathy after rebuilding the engine and knowing what's in it haha). Hence making the gearing far taller so I don't have to in normal use.

She goes through patches of vibey-ness on the way up -- it's like resonant frequencies or something, where the engine seems louder and vibes more at certain points. There's one at about 6000 rpm, so I stay below that in normal city putting about, as there's plenty of torque below there anyway. You go through that into a magically smooth part where she comes on cam at about 7,000, and revs right up past the redline without getting more vibey. Lots of vibes at 2000rpm and under too, so idling at the traffic lights can be enjoyable for the pillion.

It's got balancer shafts, but they're (stupidly) chain driven. The chain lasts for aeons, because it's submerged in oil of course, but it does stretch and you need to pull off the clutch cover and some sprockets to retension it, which is a bitch. This is possibly the issue, or perhaps they're always like this. I rode a newish GN250 once which wasn't much better, but the vibes were more consistent.

I'm waiting for some bright spark to say "It's a Honda, what do you expect?"

I'm really impressed with that... Don't let your boss know that you're this creative in the morning... they'll get you in working earlier...

Sure you do! They've got character... if that's how you describe bikes that have bits fall off them at a whim...

The redline on mine is 10,500rpm roughly... so that would probably be as high as I've had the revs as it doesn't make sense over revving it. The powerband is lower down, and there's high mechanical wear at those sorts of engine speeds... especially when the motor's done over 90,000 km as is! I didn't use the top end much in the past and still don't around town... but I've found as I've got better I use all of the rev range more often, especially around Banks Peninsula. Don't think it's any more vibey at one point than any others. A GS500 I rode was more vibey than mine!

Yay I now have all four pegs on my bike

Got hold of the guy wot I sold the frame too, he said `yep, got 'em' so I went up to his place after dinner. The guy lives in flaming Dairy Flat! Reminding you all that I live in Soviet Mangere Bridge.

Once you got off the motorway, though, brilliant roads, for a semi-residential area. Gills Rd or whatever it is into Albany Heights Rd, Wright Rd... very cool -- except kind of scary at night in the rain. In the dips and valleys in the road there was fog or mist -- beautiful, but I was careful not to give it too much shit.

Ride home on the motorway was pretty damned boring. I wish there was a way to take these curvy bumpy narrow roads the whole way home
