    Unhappy GSXR 1100 parts

Hi there I have got me a 1987 GSXR 1100, it;s a bit rough but quite restorable. What I need is a rear shock for it, cant seem to be able to source one any where. I,ve tried Progresive and Ikon with no luck. The local dealership reckon an original shock will set me back in excess of 3k +gst, so thats a no go. Any one out there have any ideas. NB I have checked and the shock on the bike is not reconditionable.

I think you'll find it can be reconditioned by the right person . They said the same thing about my FZ1000's shock yet Robert Taylor serviced it by drilling a gas port into it to regas & oil so give him a Ph on 062784160 tell him Scott sent ya & see if he can help . Even a secondhand Ohlins would be another way to go from him .

The shock certainly is rebuildable - I owned an '88 slabside model, and was told by two shops that I would have to replace my slightly tired original. I took it to Colemans Suzuki in Auckland (09 3031786) about two years ago and they rebuilt it for a couple of hundred dollars. I was well pleased with the result - the roads and my riding seemed to improve overnight! I'm still not sure if some of the 'experts' who told me they were not rebuildable thought they were telling the truth or were just kee nt osell me a new aftermarket shock...

Un rebuildabe normally are by the right person, the key is finding the right person.

If it were me Id be looking at a Ohlins if your budget can strech that far.

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round

Yeah my '87 750 is really tired at the back, I think i'll look into getting it regassed if possible.

I know over in america on the gixxer forum they did a small order run of old stock brand new ohlins direct from the manufacturer (member works for them). They ran to about $300US each, doz or so of them, but they got snapped up quick smart.

Fox made a good shock for the slabsides too, apparently.
