Aaagh! Stupid drop in carpark! <5kph!

Damage is very minor - very small crack and a small scuff on lower RHS faring.
Pride destroyed though, and dignity is a total write-off and not covered.

How I did it - had some sort of brain lapse/explosion and let the weight of the bike pull it self down. One of those 'how the hell did I let that happen!?' things i guess... still kicking myself tho

Surprisingly easily to do - you are not alone in doing it. Haven't done it myself, but then my bike weighs roughly the same as a bag of feathers. Still, the amount of stories on KB (and untold stories by its various members ) say that dropping it at low speed is something you constantly have to be aware of. At least it's mainly pride that's damaged! Hope the bike doesn't cost you too much to fix up.

When my bike was playing up a while back all my lights and stuff cut out on me in the dark on mums driveway.. Thought my sidestand was down and went to lean the bike over.. Next thing you know theres weight that I didn't expect and down she goes.. Glad is was dark and no one seen me.. Hehe..

Oh and the times where I've been coming to a stop and I've just somehow 'fallen over'.. Even to the point where I've been squished under the bike and unable to get it off me again.. LOL

Happens to the best of us... We all have our whoops moments... So stop kicking yourself.. Smile.. And have a giggle..

However, despite the detail as to the location of your damage its hard to imagine what the specifics are on your purple ... purple what?

I went to put the FXR150 on its stand .. and forgot to put the stand down ... lucky it was an fxr featherweight ... but I caught it (strained my wrist) and stood it up before it hit the ground .. glad I learnt on that bike cos would be worse on one of our bigger bikes

It's been a while now but I once dropped an RE5 in a carpark..... smooth as glass "polished" concrete and rain..... the carpark was indoors but of course I stopped while looking for a park and enough water ran off the bike to make the surface v slippery. That was a heavy bike and in those days I would have weighed less than 80kg.

Yes, done that... on the RF... needed help picking it up as well... nothing hurt but pride...

Yes, keep your hand off that front brake for low speed stuff. It's counter-intuitive, but pull your feet up and use your rear brake even if it feels more secure having your feet hanging down!

Well snap!! Went to the KB BBQ on Sunday. When I left -motor a bit cold -stalled as I took off-not fast enough with everything-1 km drop. One broken indicator only damage. Pride,self esteem shattered!! Thanks to Silage for helping [& not laughing!!] and thanx to the people who organised the bbq. :slap: :slap:

We were all quite surprised to find out about your drop... none of us heard it! We vaguely heard the stall but didn't hear the bike hit the deck, you must have let it down quite genty considering that you only broke the indicator. None of us laughed when we heard you'd put it down, we hurried out to see if you were alright just as you were riding away. No worries, easily fixed. Pride? Meh, everyone's done it! Just get that tail tidy done if you're planning on keeping the bike, and we'll forget all about it.

Thanks for letting me have a sit on it too. Quite a nice comfy seating position I thought, and a surprisingly low seat. Have to get out for a ride again once there's less grit and crud on the roads!

My best effort when I first got my "big bike" was letting the bike roll off the stand = bust brake lever. (No, I didn't know about leaving it in gear on a slope.)

Shattered pride, wobbled off down the mountain, went to put foot down at an intersection - No Ground!! = bust gear lever. (No, I didn't know that a slight dip in the road could mean the difference from short little leg reaching ground and short little leg flailing about in space.)

I know how it feels to be so fed up you'd cheerfully give your bike away to the next passer by and hitch home. Luckily those days are long gone now. Thank god for such things as "learning by your mistakes" and "improving your handling skills".

Interesting thing I found when I was going through that horrible Steep Learning Curve phase, is that if anyone laughs at you or rubs it in about you making a mistake, they often can't ride for shit.

But the old hands and the been there, done that crowd are unfailingly kind and supportive when you stuff up.

Plus, when you make a mistake and embarrass yourself thoroughly, you learn that lesson real quick! I only had to do those mistakes once to be cured of the habit . . .

Oh yeah i forgot to update my sig/profile. The real killer here is that the bike i dropped was my new '04 636 (had for less than a week! ). Yeah first 'big bike' - just wasnt used to my arse that much higher off the ground...
I should have dropped my '92 purple ZZR!
Does make me feel better that I'm not alone... and that the damage is mostly to my ego etc.

Such memories revieved. Mentally blocked all those moments of brain fade. Assigned to the "never happened" segment of my brain.


Most embarassing--- putting the front brakes on in a carpark that has just been covered with new gravel. Then deciding that keeping the helmet on was the better thing to do as I could pretend it hadnt happened.
