Buffs are fantastic (and they do, indeed, wear them on Survivor. I've seen the ads)
Definitely worth buying one rather than giving in to the temptation af making your own. The real ones have no seams, so they don't irritate your neck, even if you're a sensitive wee thing like me. Also the fabric doesn't make you sweaty. It even folds down really small to go in your pocket. I take mine everywhere.
