put it as close to the caliper as possible so that when you take off you only have about 1cm max of movement before you are stopped, thought about the cord but reckon my fix works just as well.

I do this too... still makes a hell of a bang as it hits the caliper though! (Not that I've ever tried to ride off with the disc lock on )
