    Hyosung woes continue

Here's a quote from the owner of the Yahoo! Comet 650 owners forum. Note that these problems are related to the US versions which may differ from NZ/AUS models mainly due to the strict emission regulations of the US.
Have a good read of all the faults listed though:

First if you think this is some sort of who shot JFK then please do
your self a favor, many of us have experienced engine frailer and are
really tired of some who just do not get reality and even when
presented with the parts still do not understand.

Some of the theories on the broke engines:

    First one is:
    "It's the Riders Fault!"

This one is the real cause of most of the bad PR Hyosung is getting as
some have spread this that appear to be representing Hyosung/ S&T
Motors. What is really bad is the lack of Ownership OF THIS BIKE and
    riding experience of the posters.

    Second one almost as bad!
The time taken to fix the trouble! [Honda overnights parts in the
USA! As do the rest of the Big Boys in the Business!] `My Local
Dealer it would be two to three weeks to get the parts to Phoenix from
    where ever' told me?

    The rest:
GV/GT250 seized crank, seems to be the roller bearings and hopefully
limited to the pre 2007 bikes. Some of you may have seen the images on
E-Bay when many (10 to 15) 250 and 650 engines and stripped frames
where listed, somehow the [broke] engines later where shipper to
    replace other broke engines????

    GV/GT 650 possible early 2002 to 2005 it trouble as the 250, from 2005
on we see the valve claimed to be dropping.

Some think the AIS is putting cold air on the front valve and this
some how makes it fall off the stem.

Some think that the valve stem "weld" fails due to poor welding.

Other troubles, like the leaking fuel valve that fills the engine with
fuel, has been a problem since 2003 that I know of.

Would be nice if someone would post a picture of a broken valve stem
    still up in the head.

Please note I am the web master on this site, You may find it hard to
    ban me.

You're overstating the case. Using that logic everyone who bought a Harley or Triumph is an idiot for doing so because of the large number of recalls those companies issue compared to the Japanese.

If you let a bike run out of oil, never service it, or spend your life doing burnouts in a carpark bouncing off the rev limiter you'll eventually break any engine.

For the record, I would NEVER use the experience of a Merkin customer base to justify buying anything. A large percentage of them seem to be ignorant of service procedures and general maintenance tasks and then go running back to the shop with their lawyer in tow when they break something.

If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

    Amen to that Jim2.

Don't believe anything you read on an American Internet forum.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

There are a lot of them round now and they seem to go fairly well. Nice looking bikes too. Followed one yesterday out to Waiuku, a young lass riding it seemed to be getting it to move fairly well and it all seemed to be in good shape. Theyre the new jap bikes.
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

Yep im onto 9745km(since Nov06) on mine and its been excellent so far, thought the poor little bike may break with my 125kg mass on it but so far so good, has done all i have asked of it and it has had no faults whatsoever. Found its top speed with me on it, (146) so i really envy those skinny people who ride one.

I also bought without test ride and am very happy - least till i get my full then im after more HP.

i have one too, red 06 GT250R. although i havent put many K's on her yet, only about 30 since i got it 2 and a bit weeks ago now. planning on doing some long-ish round town rides on weekends then when i've out 2000ks or so on her will take it for regular service.

cant say i regret buying it, yet or if ever. though i have been reading another hyosung forums (korider) a snapped clutch cable is the usual gripe, nothing on major failures reported there either. bear in mind that particular forum is frequented by people all over (aussie, swedes, turks, misc euros, malays just to name some) not just yanks
