Basic handling courses (in Auckland)

Does anyone kno a good basic handlings course in auckland. ive never riden a motorbike b4.
ive heard of those 1 day courses where they teach you for a day n then this is followed by the basic handlings test. is one day enough for you to pass the basic handling test if uve never riden b4??

I did mine a few weeks back at http://www.riderskills.co.nz/ . I'd highly recommend them. I had not ridden a motorbike before myself, but can you ride a bicycle? What about a car? I've never driven a car on the road (don't have car license lol) but I know how to ride a mountain bike OK. The basic handling test is very easy, don't break a sweat about it.

http://www.riderskills.co.nz/ is pretty cheap, $110 including the test. After some basic instruction on how to use the clutch, gearbox, throttle etc, he walks you through each of the actual parts of the test. Then straight after you do the test, with all the practice still fresh in your mind. It's really easy. The bikes he uses are GN125s, they're really easy to ride and not much heavier than a mountain bike so if you can ride a bike then all you need to worry about is the gearbox/clutch/throttle.

I'd also strongly recommend Phil at RiderSkills. He took my CBTA course from Learners to Restricted and Restricted to Full and I found him really great. Nice feedback delivered in a useable and polite way.

Yesterday he taught my lady and she found his teaching style very relaxing and helpful.

I would highly, highly recommend this company.

I have just passed my basic handling on Saturday and it took to me two half days but I suppose it different in Auckland. The first half day I just rode around on their bike getting comfortable with balance, clutch and brakes. Second time I did more figure eights and slalom and emergency braking. You will be surprised how comfortable you become and how quickly. I have never ridden before but I passed. Everything is at low speed and the instructors will only test you if they think you are ready for it.

Passrite in Penrose. Took me and 5 others about 3 hours to do the course. No one failed. if they or you don't think you are ready then they give you some one on one tutoring till you are confident. I had ridden before so I found it easy but others hadn't and seemed to go ok. After you had passed your basic handling they then escorted you to mt wellington testing station where you sat the test. Can't remember a cost tho.

Completely Agree

I just did my basic handling skills here, the guys are great. I'd never ridden before and he helped me and my brother learn to ride, and the other guy looked after another person who had been riding a scooter so was obviously more confident.

It took about one and a half hours to learn to ride and then we did the test, it was really fun, watched a guy fail the test before we started which wasn't much of a confidence booster haha, but all three of us on the test walked away with the certificate.

They help you until you can ride, and tell you where you are going wrong.

I only scored 1 bad point in the test for stalling the bike during the quick stop.

Next Step: Theory test! Yay

you stalled on emergency stop... that takes skill i assume you forgot to pull in the clutch?.

don't know who i could reccomend as i had been riding for a while i went to a place got it done rode round some cones...heres ur certificate.

i warn all of you now do not get a gn250!

they are the devil!

get fxr150's

if you want to ride a cruiser forever get a virago (please don't though)

if you want to ride a sportsbike get an fxr150.

faster than gn250's and viragos

and it's alot easier to adapt from a sportsbike to a cruiser later.

than cruiser to learn on gives you bad habbits for if you get a sportsbike later on.

and if your worried about being hunched over bad back etc. i was too.

but i found the thin seats etc are actually fine and being hunched forward is not as bad as i thought it would be
