    Talking Re-Volted!

Woohoo! The Mighty Volty is on the road again.

24 hours after she was sitting in a workshop having been "written off," she was singing her happy little thumper song, almost as good as new AND I'll be riding her to work tomorrow. Huge thanks to Mack the Knife, The Stranger & crew, Big Red, Bella & Dave C.

Against all odds we found an original Volty indicator assembly at the wreckers, without its lens. But I had picked up my unbroken lens from the middle of the road after the accident so we just popped them together, got a new bulb and voila!

We also found an original tail light assembly and patched together a new lens out of its broken bits and my retrieved broken bits.

Mack the Knife worked wonders on the rear guard with a rubber mallet and a chunk of firewood, and proceded to do the same thing to my back and shoulders! Believe me, if you've ever been panel-beaten by Mack, it's a real experience

Then the darling boys at Mt Eden Motorcyles let me borrow an old shock until I can get hold of a pair of GN shocks later in the week.

Today I got a replacement number plate and took the Volty out for a quick spin to check that we'd put all the bits back in the right places. First time back on a bike since the crash, and I LOVED it. I'm one happy camper

Thanks again to all those who helped, those who offered help, those who commiserated and offered encouragement, and to Jill for her patience because we should have been doing "other stuff" this weekend

Q: How many KBers does it take to put a Volty back together?
    A: The whole damn family

Well done! Big props to those who did the deeds and got you back onto two wheels again!

You got it all done in what seems like record time!

Thanks, guys. The handlebars are still bent so I'll need to get another set this week... Until then I'll just ride around in circles. (Situation normal?)

As for the speedy repair, if any of my 'helpers' had done it on their own it probably would have taken five minutes. But I was learning as I went along, so the helpers had to stand patiently by and watch as I muddled my way through.

Must remember... lefty loosy, righty tighty

    Great learning experience though.

Seems normal to me, I get home every time I set out so I must be riding around is circles too. Long squiggly circles, but topologically a circle.

That's wicked Klingon! Really pleased to hear that. It's so satisfying the first time getting back on after your bike has been in a million pieces for a while! Awesomeness.

Bent bars? It's funny how quickly you get used to bent bars. Even though I could see, visually, that my bars were bent, I still couldn't bring myself to believe it because they felt so natural. When I put a pair of clipons on, which are (by nature) straight (unless you put them on crooked), I had a moment where I was thinking `hmm... unusual'.

Not a particularly dangerous thing, unless they're horrifically bent. Much like holding your car steering wheel with one hand higher than the other.

Yay for 250 singles, another one back up and running

Yah for you. Great to hear you and the Volty are back on the road.
