    Sensei checks out Tricolore 1098s

Well as there is only 2 of these in NZ & this is the only one on the road I thought I would call the owner to check his Beautiful bike out today & have a chat about it . Well where do I start about the bike , you just stand there & try to find words . Mumma-Mea was all I could come up with . Bike has 1200k on the clock & owner says 4th gear power stands at over 140+ks is just a twist of the wrist away crazy as is the torque he was saying . He has put the race pipes on plus the Eprom chip to suit them & when he fired it up I have never heard a V-Twin with such a deep low Thump which seem to come from under the ground it was Sweet . The bike has a memory stick that will tell you stuff like the motor / throttle / & other stuff for downloading when racing etc which is a nice touch . The Dash is full of numbers & tells you everything ya need to know & way more , The brakes are Mono block Brembo units which owner said are abit intimidating with their aggressive bite but may be just in need of some more bedding in . After looking at the Tri-colour for around 30min you can see that Ducati have found what has been missing from the 999 range a total revamp & styling plus a new motor to boot to double the Service intervals which should please new buyers . I'm looking forward to hooking up with the owner to hear & see this machine in action as he is well known for his NZ race track skills as well as road so should be a great day out . Pics for you to enjoy

    Sex on wheels huh!!!

all the write ups say the brakes are designed that way... so a little 'getting to know you' is needed i think.

    Bling bling..

Beautifull - love that frame colour & the great white shark nose. F1 style dash isn't my cuppa tea though.

I reckon it's the Cindy Crawford of Motorcycles. If it wasn't for that mole, ( I mean exhaust) it'd be perfect. I'd love one, does he want to swap for a Bayliss?

Hey, can we get some more pics of the '72ish Avenger thats in the background?

Dont want to burst your bubble but i have a 1098 with aftermarket pipes etc , so basically the same speced engine as the tri-colour, and 4th gear power wheelies, yeah right !! Exactly the same motor and im only 75kg. Second gear wheelies are a certainty if you give it a handful, but 4th gear, na.
Service intervals go from every 10000km to 12000km, 24000km etc. Motomart have managed to get a few of the tri-colours and they had a couple sitting outside the shop yesterday. They have pre- sold several. Prefer what ive got, but the tri-colours are pretty cool, if you have a spare 44k. Paying 32k for the one ive got was painful enough and still wake up in cold sweats at the thought that i shelled out ( or at least the bank did ) that amount of dosh.
I doubt if they will be collectable as say an 851 tri-colour, but maybe one day.

If you didnt want to burst is bubble then why did you continue to type??

have you ridden the tri? can you 100% guarentee that they wont do power wheelies in 4th?

so you think you know all about the 1098's and that you are such a master that you are willing to call someone a blatant liar on a public forum???

    tut tut.

ummm.....considering he owns one....suggestive of the fact he RIDES one, I'd think he's possibly got every right to comment. Also, considering that the main diff between the Tri and the standard is about 2kg of weight and different suspension I'd suspect he's probably right re: the torque. Not that I wud comment personally coz I aint ridden one, yet

Who cares....I'd own either if they were black ...and my bank account allowed it

At the time this bike was brought it was the only one of 2 & I still believe the only one Reg/Wof on the road at this stage unless you know of another one Duke5 ? There are 1200 of them to be made so surprisingly there may be other ones sold here now . The owner went to the Ducati Factory & watched the 1098s been made . Only 300 aday & are put together by the same person right from start to finish & they sign their name so if anything goes wrong with it they can go back to the person which put it together . Great touch . Did you go through the Ducati Factory Duke 5 & see your bike been built ? Thank for your postive comments look forward to meeting & riding with you .

My best mate just got his 1098 last week and he came round to show me what he had ,..... bastard. But he did say i could have a crack at it once hes run it in . He likes it more than his 998 but says some things have gone backwards from the 998, what heasdlight lol.
He loves the "choose any gear and just pass whats in front "mode the 1098 offers and recons it just thinks its way through corners better than the 998. I rode his 998 and loved it so i cant wait to have a go on this new toy. Yehaaaaa .

I passed one on the motorway on Saturday. He/she waved. I was impressed.

The one in the window at Motomart looks stunning. But I'd perfer a black one.

I've seen more mobile 1098 in the last month than mobile than 749/999.
