anyone have one or have any oppinions on them? is there any protection differance between the models or is it just the weight/materials?
i am thinking of getting one from the states as it is so much cheaper than local.

they are pretty good, the only difference is materail and weight, the lighter the dearer.
no shops will ship them direct out fo the states, they are not allowed to
hey scott are you sure they wont ship? is this just for the leatt brace coz i got my asterisk knees like that for like $400 less than in NZ. the leatt club version is like NZ$1100 in NZ or US$395 from US thats less than half price which in my opinion is rubbish especially when it comes to safty gear that they want to mark stuff up like that and make it unobtainable for most of the riding community.
very easy to get around the issue of shipping it over here. talk to any freight company out at the airport, for example DHL (this is who i used last time). you then get their address in the states. when you order it through the shop in the US you specify the freight companies US address. they then forward it through to NZ. (i hope this makes sense)
Are these just for off road use? by the way I see Dainese and KTM are also making neck braces too.
ktm's brace is the leatt brace just rebranded i think
i know BTOsports nad a few of the other big places will not, if you have someone in the states to send it to then send it to you it will be ok,
aplinestars in cracking down on international selling as well
Astars neck brace is still in devolpment, thy have released thier road race one, but are still working on mx version
Got to try the KTM version on the weekend, was verry good i havent actually
tried the leatt brace but i do have to say it felt very comfortable and didnt restric movements, the KTM is the same price as the leatt but i supose it does make you feel alot safer with the safety it offers but i still think for what they are there still to expensive!!
It pisses me off how much NZ companies "mark-up" items over here. I guess the states is a much bigger market, but these days the world's a whole lot smaller too. I regularly order stuff from the states from dealers, and ebay. I'd like to use my local dealer, but not when it costs twice as much even after the shipping cost for one item...
The other thing to watch is that you may not be able to complete the purchase if your billing and delivery addresses are not the same. Some of the USA shops are pretty paranoid about credit card fraud. I'd like to try one as I still have whiplash from the VTR accident and it makes me a bit paranoid of falling off on the trails.
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!
'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '
the KTM brace is the Leatt Brace, KTM and BMW funded alot of the devolpment of this brace for thier riders in teh Paris-Dakar, BMW also sella version in Europe,
i know i should stay out of this but i can't
next time your local event needs sponsorship contact the american guys you are getting items off, i would like to hear the response, NZ motorcycle shops do not have outragous margins compared to other companies and the extra tends to be because of the distrubtor margin.
there's a global market out there and it's at your finger tips, take avantage of the strong NZ dollar while it lasts.
PS. we didn't see retail prices come down as the dollar value went up!!!
thats a good point about the dollar, and as scott411 says, the distributors (i think Shayne King and his Crown Kiwi distributors-who seem to have a monopoly going) are putting stupid amounts onto there stuff too
