Incident Type: OIL SPILL
2KM OIL SPILL - LINDIS PASS FROM SUMMIT TOWARDS CROMWELL
Police advise all motorists travelling over the Lindis Pass on State Highway 8 of an oil spill for a 2 km stretch of the road from the top of the summit heading towards Cromwell.
Transit New Zealand have a road crew en-route to clean up the hazard - it may take several hours to do this due to the remote location and the size of the spill.
Police urge motorists to take extreme care over this section of State Highway, not only for the slippery road conditions but also for the road-crew workers and the police who will be at the scene.

To every man upon this earth
Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods
