Not as good as proper valving but a lot cheaper.

Ahh. What spring are you running.

I use a car grease on the bevel gear diffs of my R/C off-roader once. Blistered up where ever it touched me. Including where I just scratched my nose.
Used the same stuff later and no issues.
    Compression wound right off, ok!
Spring is stock as far as i am aware..... Old bike been across the states and back to NZ, I know it had all the good gear once, but swapped out and sold off by the first owner after he freighted it back from the states. Stink... but fair enough aye! $$$$

I used to work up to my armpits in oils, till i used a citrus cleaner and crunched my thumb, the next day was the beginning of the end...
Some oils im fine with, others its a month of misery... literally! Barrier cream and nitrile gloves and a bucket of careful!

But hey, thats life! and i aint giving up tinkering with stuff and try not to pay mechanics for stuff i used to do in my sleep!

Lucky that Yamaha NZ head mechanic patched the bike for me when i got caught with no gloves and a hell oil gusher on the Kaipara 200!

    LOL

    Stock 6.7kg spring, I'd be tempted to do a 7.5w mix. I'm using 10w with a 7.6kg one.

Did it come complete including a brand new seat pan ?
Kind of assuming it did at $600 so you now have two entire seats for your DR.
It is a complete seat, just unbolt the old one and bolt on the new unit, and enjoy the difference....

I'm impressed how long this thread has been going for, though not as much as at how long the DR650 has been manufactured for!

Anyone got super high mileage stories? Do these motors ever die?

Shorai Powersports batteries are very trick!

Not super high, 51,000. Its done 30 odd in the south island, done the trans America trail and then been shipped back to NZ ( obviously ) but sadly not with me on it back then!

Only thing done to it in that time was a clutch on the Trans America Trail, so that is pretty good!

Still no smoke, knocks or rattles.

Having said that.... bet the gearbag lunches its self and the piston falls out now....

My chassis has done 106,000km but the engines have done about 70,000km each.
The only guy in Oz not to ride in sand got 200,000 odd on his with cam chain and clutch replaced whilst couriering with it.

Low revs in high gears are not kind to the gearbox.

High revs in high gears are sweet.

That's why you don't hear of any DR650 race bikes with blown gearboxes.

Best way to toast any gearbox is load it up. tow in 5th gear in a vehicle and watch the gearbag go to lunch.

Just cause it will, dont mean it should...

If the DR had a high comp piston and everyone lugged them low in the revs they would all pink their pistons to bits...

So why not try putting a GSXR 600 can on again and leaving it alone? no one else seems to be having issues with them.

Yeah was a GSXR one But shortened it!
Think I'll just bite the bullet and order a Q4 from Procycle or maybe a Cycleworks one?
Anyone using either of these? Feedback??
