well on Saturday i had a little mishap with my bike....one of them tracks that lead to know where,,, and no room to turn around...so i had to lay my bike on its side and drag it around pick it up and try and get out.
turns out i hand smashed the bottom part of rear guard, and have lost about 100mm of plastic, so trimmed up and a bit of brace work,, its a bob tail now...
still one big crack runs up past the top reflector.
so i wont go down that track again...

Just curious, but would a DR650 engine fit in my old 1982 Suzuki DR500? My engine is fine at the present but if it blows up ...

    Hey, Joe.
I unbolted the whole thing, took a bit of Aluminium to make my own much shorter one. I used a 12v Trailer marker light with some black paint around the top of the lens to make a really small but effective number plate light. Have a proper look next time we ride out together.

    Thoughts anyone
shit bought my bike with 16k miles on it and and front pads looked 2/3rds worn, its at 26,5K now and gonna put some new ones in next couple o days althoough looks like could probably get a bit more out of them hopefully the new ones are just as decent

Hey Gav24. Nice idea. My plate is just bolted on the back guard. If I can't get away with it, I might do something similar to yours.

    Cheers

    Gidday rok-the-boat,
I've asked a similar question on here and other forums. Didn't get a definitive answer (or any answer for that matter) because nobody has done it before or thought about it. I have a '85 Dr600 and would like to fit a newer engine but have no idea if it would work. I think it would be possible but not practical due to costs of the engine etc...So I'm still looking for another engine or will have to flogg it off so I can get a Dr650.

PS. I've heard that a Honda engine will fit ?XR500.

    Header weld

Just ground out the header weld on the DR , noticed that I've gained fuck all in the way of a power gain , but the bike is lighter by a bit more than fuck all.

not sure what were in there, pulled them out and was good move as were right on the edge. put some new ones in that i got from www.kientech.com awesome people will help you out with anything will see how these roll, thrown out the packaging so dunno the brand either

thinkin the reason i got so many miles outa them is cause i been riding across the states so alot of straight roads with select twisties thrown in guess at home will be a different story

The one in my '01 was really restrictive and mad a noticeable difference when done. The one from the '97 is at the "if I have the header off sometime and a carbide bur handy but no hurry" stage - about half the restriction.

    I have just bought a 2007 DR 650..

Corse the first thing we have to do is fix it.

It doesnt need fixing. its only done 7000ks. but i will fix it anyway.

just a quetion... the fuel petcock is normall 3 position.

straight up and down which is ment to be off.. is called prime.

ok pulled the gas hose off and petrol pisses out.. there is no way i can stop the tank from letting fuel out.. is this normal>? or do i have a crook petcock.
And that is the honest truth your honour..

Never had a DR but had a few other Suzuki's and going by those this is normal. Prime isn't meant to be 'off', it allows a free flow of fuel to the carbs.

Not all Suzuki carbs are Off, Reserve and On.
