What is a DR 650 like for an extended ride. Comfortable, too many vibrations etc etc?

Diabolical, but not as bad as some.No issue with vibration. Plenty of threads on here about aftermarket options. I resorted to a sheepskin for the Dusty Butt's

Minimal vibrations, much better than I ever expected actually. Seriously crap seat though, I get uncomfortable after about 150km's. A sheepskin makes a good difference but a wider and more padded seat is on my want list. Seat to footpeg distance could be greater IMO.

It is our weapon of choice for riding from Alaska to Argentina and further next year, they are lighter and smaller than other 650s.

Wot the boys said about the seats is true, we are having two seats custom made to more shape and width and reduction in height, the height more so for Ellens bike.

Argentina? Alaska?? Dude that will be some epic journey. Very envious there. Fantastic you are doing it together- certainly keeping the pressure on Ellen with the skills program.

Yeah I have got a week off work .. that should cover it eh

Really lookin forward to it Mark, I have had a good round the block trip in the planning for a few years and the time was never right, not sure if it is now or not so we are just gonna go, end of April 2012 on.

Been saving since Iceland last year, Ellen will have to quit her job as they won't hold it for more than a year so that has just made it easier to keep riding until the piggy bank runs dry.

I agree about the Shinko 705. I had one on for over 15000 k's and found it very good for the price. I have recently replaced it it with a Kenda K761. Also very cheap ($100) but poor wet grip (spins up taking off from the lights in the rain).

In regards to comfort , I have done Wellington to Paeroa and back for the battle of the streets the last two years using a sheepskin and found it ok for a couple of hours, anything longer will induce piles. I have noticed some vibrations through the bars recently (fat bar conversion with hand gaurds and no bar end weights).

    Poor 's Man's Corbin

Like everyone else on a DR650 for an extended ride, my butt has been sore too many times - Corbins are nice, partner's got one on her bike but that ain't mine.

Imported a bigger tank from Just Tanks and included the Seat Concepts cover for the DR.

Here's a few pics showing the fitting - (pics are in reverse order!) - I ain't too much of a handyman but it wasn't too difficult and went together fairly easily.

The minor wrinkles at the upturn are something to do with the cutting in the factory - I could not pull them out without straining the stitching on the sides.

I have yet to fit the tank and pumper carb so can't say if it will be better but it sure as hell looks like it should be - note in the pic my mods for the stock seat - bore a few holes in the foam - helped a bit but the real problem is the width (as the actress said to the Bishop).

All up seat and IMS tank - $NZ317 delivered.

Hmm, interesting, humour a slow guy here.

So you buy the seat concepts kit, it includes a new cover with built in padding?

You then strip your old cover and padding off the seat pan, lay the new cover and padding on, staple it up and voila! bobs your uncle, new comfy seat?

That is a great price. My son is interested as he is stock currently. Where did you get such a good deal, this is what I found just for the seat.
