You can get a 16 in 525. One of my mates runs 16/39. I think he had the 39 made though.

Do you sacrifice wear by going 520? The chain width is noticably different.

I bought a cheap 525, thinking that a cheap 525 would be as good an average 520. How wrong was I. It's still stretching after 5000km. Have to adjust it every ride.

My chain has syarted to stretch like mad in the last few rides. It was on the bike when I got it and ive done another 7000km on it. With equivalent chains, the 525 sprockets should last longer. If I can get a 16 tooth 525 I mite go that way.

    Kientech do a 16/45 in 525.

The only thing I don't like about the 525's is the price of the chain.
16/45 is the same as 15/42 but you have the choice of running a 14-15 too.

Just put a Shinko 700 on the rear, looks like it will a slightly better grip than the Pirelli A/T90 I've run in the past. Pirelli rallycross in the front- will be testing on this combo on the coastal gravel roads in the Coromandel this weekend.

I like the mt21 on the front. As it's non-directional, when the rear of the knobs wear, spin it around and even it up. Lasts a lot longer...

    DR under-seat air filter

I've cleaned out the small circular air filter under the seat as it was pretty dirty, how the hell do I get it apart to re-oil the little foam filter? I was considering cutting up a piece of an old (but cleaned/oiled) ttr air filter and inserting it on top to improve the filtration. I see that ProCycle have an improved after market design but that will have to wait... Anyone have an clever ideas?

    It doesn't come apart.

You can rip the foam out and push in some air filter foam or I used a small unifilter type breather filter.
The pumper carbs don't use it at all.

Thanks for that, sounds like I'm on the right track. Where did you source your small unifilter?

    Not yet.

I had it up to the bottom of the seat once though.
Must have been a gnats whisker away from drowning it.

The snorkel only makes it 5mm higher...

Yeah but i doubt the snorkel will let water flood in
I'm thinking of cutting the top off mine soonish.

Saw the XT in colebatch's thread ended up with water in the crankcase after submersion, the DR seems to have a similar setup but a quick google didn't bring up any sad tales

    Shinko 700 Rear Tire

I would hate to have to change the shinko 700 in the field- spent about an hour last night, sweating like a rapist, trying to get the final 30cm to go on. No luck. Just drove in to the local bike shop and a an experienced staff member had a crack with tire levers and rubber mallet- no luck. He finally put in on the machine and finally got it on. Looks like it's going to be a great tire...just hope like hell I never get a flat....
