The switch I got from Jaycarr is tiny, looks waterproof and I can drill it into the existing block and the existing wires will reach it. But yeah - a kill switch would do the same job. The main thing is weather proofing i guess as some cheap switches look like they would last about one rainy day. And who knows, one day i may even use the DR for its intended purpose and go adventure riding where there are rivers and such!

Only bother about the footpeg blocks if you intend racing at a Kart track like Silverstream. I keep grinding the footpeg blocks off at Levels so would probably leave then till you hit the Kart tracks. They aren't for bike protection but to protect the track. I would pit sliders/crashbungs about 90mm long mounted where the pillion pegs bolt in, as they actually do protect the bike and maybe another shorter one wher the left rear indicator goes. Thats the place I usually have one but smashed the indicator instead on Sunday.

See how long it lasts all glued back together, recommend UHU glue for plastic.

I took the started button off when I went over the bars and broke my neck. Guys at Nelson Motorcycle centre wired on a Honda starter and kill switch block. Had the leave the kill switch in off to get the bike to run (???) but worked fine.

Feck thats a bit extreme. How are you - all recovered I hope? I take it from your comments that you are riding again.
I have only seen one other road racer down here wearing neck protection. I use a neck nut which I think looks a little funny but I don't mind breaking anything except my head, back and neck.

No worries, got 8 skatey wheels coming but will look into longer bung at the passenger sets.

What size rod did you use for the front axle as I got some 10 mm threaded rod and it won't go thru?

Dude bad news, hope you are alright, I too broke my neck and now I have Titanium plates holding my neck together, glad they bolted my head on forward, would hate to fart in my own face

Couple of pics from Round 3 King of Levels on Saturday. Racing with slicks makes a huge difference to lap times, I dropped nearly a full 4 seconds since changing. I get the old DR around at 1:19.673 which I am pretty chuffed with. Check out some of the sportsbike times and you can see why I am happy. And a pic from the gravel hill climb and bent sprint on Sunday. I had already binned by the time the photo was taken on Sunday which slowed me down a lot. My new $5-90 starter switch that I broke seems to be ok.

Here is a rare sight. A DR650 int he pits on slicks with tyre warmers and all. This is the Dunedin Motard Boys pits. Mark's KTM on the left, Hayden's KTM on the right and Scotts CRF usually sits where my bike is, but he blew 5th gear so I got to use his tyre warmers. Thats me facing camers with a big grin. What a difference to confidence hot tyres makes. 12th on the grid and about 5th into the first corner - and down to about 11th again by the end of the straight - god I hate straights. Still I am pleased to be consistantly in the mid-field on what is really a practically standard street adventure bike.

Its well over two years ago now since I did the damage. No plates or anything. It was a crack in C1 so extremely lucky that things didn't move more. Get the odd twinge but nothing serious. I've been riding again for almost two years now.

You are lucky, I have permanent nerve damage and get the angry pains down both arms and my neck but that is what I am stuck with so it has to be game on or I lose!

Hit 43 yesterday, bit of a get together with a surprise guest appearance from RedKLR650 (stu) so I am still alive and kicking.

Few dodgy photos taken and some liquids consumed till about 4.00 am this morning

Out for another ride on Suzy this avo, life is good.

Noticed somone said peg sliders don't do much to protect the bike , I've found that they hold the bike further off the ground limmiting dammage , have photographic evidence on/off my 450 , and noticed a lot more room for my leg on the 650 after the road rotated suddenly . They don't go on my thou though as road bike pegs fold a lot further so don't offer the same protection .

I was noting today that the foot pegs on my DR are a little high to be comfortable.

Anybody know if you can get a kit to lower the pegs (and the gear and brake lever)?

It would also lower the center of gravity. :-)

Does anybody hold their foot "at the ready" over the brake? I always have to move my foot forward to hit the brake. Which is a bit hairy when I'm standing up on the pegs going over rough terrain and then get the urge to brake...
