So far the best buying looks like ex taiwan for under $100 but I'm in no rush so will see if anything turns up cheap locally, it's a bucket which really appeals to my Scots cheapness!

    Appreciate the link tho, thanks!

Buffoon, those symptoms are similar to my DR, it was running a 160 main and going back to a 157 cured them, ie; it was running a little rich. Do your airbox mods then spend half a day with main jets to find what works for your set up, I was surprised how much difference one jet size made.

Just saying in case anyone is looking while I consider my options some more.
Has had bottom end rebuilt almost a couple of years ago costing me about $3500 and has second set of rims among other extras.
I just know someone's going to ask how much I want but I'm a bit unsure so far as I am also unsure whether to sell with the IMS tank or sell the tank to another mate who's shopping for a tank now.
Maybe it will be worth more when the LAMS thing for licencing kicks in later in the year.
I am intersted in your DR650 bike. Both Dean from Avon Suzuki and the guy that got the 650 KLR Avon Suzuki was selling Warwark who had a test ride on your bike said it was in great condition and to look you up on this site as you were thinking of selling.

If you could txt me on 021 570 603 so i could check it out. No biggie if you want you dont want to.

    Cheers

    DR Headlight bulb upgrade

Probably been mentioned before – My DR650 headlight was completely shite so did the bulb upgrade with relays to minimise voltage drop, did the measurements on amps to see the difference between the stock 60/55 H4 and a NARVA 100/90 "NOT FOR USE IN EUROPE" bulb, difference is huge main beam just lights up the road, dip gives a better wide spread of light also. Surprised at the low current draw from what I researched on the www of bullshit 6.3amps on main with the new bulb which probably would not even warm the stock wiring but I wasn’t prepared to have a meltdown.
Added a light switch to turn off the lights in case the battery gets low or I want to use other power consumers, all the cables & relays connected by the headlamp and fuses by the starter relay.

    My ADV riding in France

Hi long time - months - since my last post, so hi to everyone!

Anyway, I'm here in France til jan next year and after 2 months of being without the DR650 I decided it was time to stump up the grand sum of 950 euros for a 1986 DR600... Any bloody awesome it is too!
Very original bike with road only kms (about 50,000), and recently fitted with my usual Michelin t63's (well it is france).

Did NZ ever get these 600's?
They seem to be very well set up as std - Big tank, bash guard, even a round slide carb, a handy little rack and bag on the rear mudguard. Suspension feels firmer as well, -great!
Only negative for me is the kick start, but thats OK really with the auto decomp thingy lever.

As std (ie quiet!) its a brilliant bike for exploring the local 'chemins' that criss cross the countryside in this part of SW france. Occasionally the tracks wind through sleepy villages, farm yards and even one I've found through someones back yard! I dont think my bike back in NZ would be a welcome arrival with the extra noise! On this bike I dont even wake up the farm dogs - let alone the locals on their 3 hr lunch breaks!

Missing riding with you North Island, and occasional SI guys. Must get round to getting some pics and start a new ride thread from this part of the world.

    - Hi jacked thread over, but its almost a DR650!
    Au Revoir!

    Hi Gavin

Aren't you supposed to be fixing your mother's house?

    Shhh!

She thinks I'm just popping out to get more "pointes, bois and carrelage"

Fixing is going well, should be renovation really as I'm turning an old dirt floor barn into an extension of the house. Sort of enjoying the work though, completely different to what I'm used to, and Ive finally finished putting right all of the cock ups made by the last cowboy builder who was meant to get started on the job, so thats changed my attitude towards the work for the positive.

Myself, Leanne and the kids are really missing NZ though for lots of different reasons, and I think I may have to sign up for the Dusty Butt when I get back to get my fill of New Zealand again!

Hey, how much further past the hut is the swingbridge? I've been as far as the crossing the main river and the tracks looked fairly good after that, but I had to turn back then as people were waiting at the hutt...

Looks like a good ride though.

It doesn't seem that much further when you are following the likes of Mark_S and Andy Mac.

There are some huge Podocarp trees on the other side of the river so perhaps the logging finished here.

Done. Much improved on and off road. Very happy with the result. Thanks for the advice

    Exhaust for DR650

Will any of these work? I know there is two, maybe someone else wants one? Or I could fit one to the aprilia, one to the DR650?
