ok dr650 folks. gonna get a bigger tank soon.

where to take it from welly?

the bike seems so tiny, so lightweight; almost got blown away today. would love to take a long trip and then jump into a mess someplace. there must be something near lake wairarapa?

i have some old continentals on the bike so i got to wear them off and then get new ones. or maybe i'll go back to kenda they were ok -- less slippery.

If the weather is fine next Sunday I might head out to Ocean Beach for a play.

Does anyone know where the extenders for the standard mirrors can be brought from?, Ive seen them advertised somewhere but buggered if I can remember where.

Re raised bar mounts, Im bang on 6 ft, is there a common lift height that other 6 footers-ish have found to be ok, i see they come in a range of sizes but would rather not have to experiment If I can help it.

Hope to have a DR650 within a week.

    Cheers

I'm 5'9" and have 25mm footpeg lowering brackets and had 25mm bar risers. I wasn't happy with the bar height when standing so picked up up a set of Powermadd 50mm risers with my last Procycle order. I find them much better when standing though they did feel a bit odd for the first while when seated. They can be roatated forward a bit also.

I have a young freind who is looking to get into adv riding and likes the look of this...http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-512487159.htm

    or this.....
    http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-507897296.htm

I'm thinking the white one would be the best plus it meets lams approval with the stock muffler. Any of you DR crew know how much the adv tank and seat combo is worth?

I need to get some riding practise in first, especialy on shingle before the next ride here which is on the 6th (Check HB Ride outs).

Im surprised that bike stayed on for as long as it did as I thought the price was very fair comparing it with most of what else there was on offer. Im very interested to see if the seat is original, hard to tell from the pics but it looks lower than stock, the guy who owned it is the
2nd owner and has very little idea about tyres etc, he couldnt tell me what brand or type of tyres are on it and has only used it to commute to work. I wanted something with stock intake and exhaust so I can try it first like that then mod if I want to.

Re the tank and seat combo, Freedom Suzuki had a set on display about a month ago and from memory it was worth about $1200, prob a bit cheaper from the States or Ebay etc.

Congrats on getting the bike. I'm 185cm 6ftish and find the standard bar and mirror positions ok. Bunnings have some nice sized 3.7L tanks for $9.95 that will keep you going till you get a tank. The seats and tanks prob cost about the same ex usa once you pay shipping and customs/gst. There was an aussie outfit that had the acerbis tanks at a good price if you have friends travelling with large suitcases/carry on space! (ie import as secondhand/private gift etc.)

You will definately want to bin the stock exhaust in favour of absolutely any other option. You don't realise how badly they strangle the engine till you replace them. Also removes a heap of weight. I'm very biased in favour of the DG Oval can and midpipe, good value and ok noise wise with reducer.

Yeah, Each to their own, I need to ride it first and go from there, I pick it up on Sunday so then its a matter of seing how it suits me, Im very much in favour of having both feet flat on the ground as well which i can do on the lowered height so i may do that yet.
So on that subject , has anyone got a lower sidestand they are willing to part with?

Had a google today and found a few pics of the prototype Safari fairing fitted to a bike, no pics of the final version though which is different in places.
