    Auckland Harbour Bridge - lane advice

    When I ride North over Auckland Harbour Bridge after work, I usually go for the fast (hahaha) Lane and NOT via the Nippon-ClipOn. I usually sit in the right hand lane, but close enough to the lane on the left, so I can scoot through when the cars stop. Last Wednesday night on the way home I had a rear tyre blow-out which was character-building. I spent ages trying to make sense of it, as I was sure I didn't see anything lying in the road.

    Now I have an idea.... (just one as I don't want to overdo things)....
    The Right-hand lane of the Harbour bridge gets opened and closed by some huge machine which shuffles the concrete barrier left and right. (Kinda like a "Shove-A-Penny" machine at the arcades). During the day, all manner of shit gets pushed by the traffic to the sides of the road. Then (at Peak Traffic time), the concrete-shuffler widens the road, leaving that line of shit to sit between the middle and the newly opened right hand lane.

    So it may be worth avoiding the Middle/Right lanes on the bridge.

    Oh Yes and thanks to the bikers who saw me shunting the bike from the fast to the slow lane. They waved very nicely, but didn't stop.... Cheers! and please imagine that this Icon is actually giving you boys the finger

    I didn't see ya but I'd imagine it'd be kind of hard to stop on the HB in that traffic. Especially if you didn't expect to see someone broken down. Besides, you said it, it's character building!

    Cheers for the advice though, I'll definitely be using that when I get my new bike.

    Indeed.
    Stopping on the bridge is a big no-no! That's the HP's job - they have people monitoring what's happening on the bridge, and don't appreciate "helpers" stoping to help and creating more mayhem.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Not bottlenecking the flow of traffic behind you any further would likewise be.. courteous.

    and a biker on thier own trying to push a 200 kilo bike doesnt get in the way more?

    i couldve parked (theres the bit between the centra and the clipon) that does in no way get in the way of traffic.

    It's the harbour bridge for crying out loud!
    You, on your theoretical bike would only a) get in the way and b) cause further traffic congestion by "parking" on a thin two lane bridge way.

    and if anything it eases congetion as the bike can get out of the way quicker.....

    wouldn't it be illegal to stop on the bridge for no good reason anyway? and i doubt stopping for another biker who's completely capable of pushing their own ride counts...

    would you want to push your bike down the harbour bridge on your own with a blown tyre?

    I've pushed a 1951 BSA B33 that had run out of gas 2 km and half of that was up a hill... a blown tyre on a newer bike is piss easy compared to pushing that relic... if you can't push your own damn bike its your own problem

    ill remember that, after al gixxers break down every 5 mins, shouldve kept the bsa they are more reliable.
