Jacket, pants and gloves - free

I've got some old (well, three years or so) gear that's perfectly servicable but surplus to my requirements. Rather than go through the hassle of listing it on Tardme, I thought there might be someone here who needs some gear but can't afford it.

Proper gear is a life-saver. Just ask Speedie, Riff Raff or any of other other resident paramedics what happens when tarmac and skin meet. It ain't pretty ... especially if the rider thought that his nylon bomber jacket was going to protect him. It's bad enough pulling chipseal out of flesh, but removing molten nylon or polyester is a whole new world of hurt.

So ... if you're riding around in a street jacket or jeans or think your ski gloves are gonna protect you, then send me a PM. Please don't ask for the kit just 'cos your bike gear's out of fashion or some other crap. I'm not interested in hard-luck stories. Collect or deliver in Auckland's fine, but I will post if necessary. All I ask is if the stuff doesn't fit, or you replace it with newer gear, you pass it on to someone else that might make good use of it.

    Some descriptions:
    Nazram Extreme Jacket.
Black. Size S. Cordura / leather construction. CE-approved armour on shoulders and elbows. 1cm thick very dense foam back pad. Apparently has a 'Reissa' membrane - whatever that is. Comes with a zip-in quilted liner.
The jacket is not waterproof unless the liner's zipped in. Much of the leather's perforated so it's pretty good in hot weather. In cold weather, the liner's all I need with just a t-shirt underneath ... but then I'm a Pom so acclimatised to relatively cold weather . It's festooned with pockets too, including a dedicated one for your mobile phone (also not waterproof!). The jacket's in very good condition, overall.

    Spool Cordura Pants.
Black. Size L. Cordura construction. CE-approved armour on knees and some lightweight completely pointless foam padding on the hips. Comes with a zip-in quilted liner.
The pants are nominally waterproof; they're good for anything other than sustained heavy rain. Unlike the jacket, the shell of the pants are waterproof; the liner's just for thermal insultation. It's got some reflective piping on the lower legs, but other wise it's plain black. The material's become a little frayed at the junction of the main seams in the groin (too many pies, probably) and one of the pocket zip toggles has broken off. Other than that, the pants are in good condition.

    Alpinestars Drystar gloves.
Black. Size M. Mainly leather, with a little synthetic leather and nylon. Thinsultate lining with a Hipora waterproof membrane.
Don't let the name fool you - the gloves are not waterproof. I think they're meant to be, but a good downpour will have them leaking pretty quickly. They'll keep you dry in drizzle though. The leather's become discoloured slightly on the back of the knuckles of one of them, but other than that, they're in very good condition.

As for sizing: I'm 5'8" and have a 92 cm waist. The jacket's a little on the tight side, but less so than my leathers and nothing uncomfortable. The pants are also a little tight round the waist, but I can wear a belted pair of jeans underneath them without any trouble. As for the gloves; my hand's 23.5 cm from the tip of my thumb to the point of my little finger. None of the gear has ever been slid down the road.

Nice offer and I hope it goes to a good home. I see many bikers on my travels wearing the most inappropriate gear.

Wow dude good on ya, thats an awesome offer. I'm wishing i could get some new gloves and jacket at the moment to take my girl on the back of my bike. However I'm sure there are others on KB who could really use this more than me, as I already have gear for myself.

Its a waterproof and breathable membrane, helps combat that hot sticky feeling you can get, we use it now in our gear.

Good on you dude for helping out others !!

Good on ya Sanx, very generous offer.

Just a tip for whoever takes the gloves (I have the same type). If you pull them over the top of your jacket's sleeves, then tighten up the drawstring you will only keep out light rain. For heavy rain, pull the drawstring enough just to take the slack out of them when they are just over your bare wrists, and then pull your jacket sleeves over the top of that and tighten the jacket cuffs. That will make them waterproof in all but sustained torrential downpour (then the seams will eventually start to leak).

I'd also highly recommend some marino glove liners (about $20-30 from stores like Motomail or Kathmandu) for use on colder rides, as you will be able to use the gloves just about all year long (excepting hot summer days).

Jacket's gone. Pants are on hold pending the person who contacted me about them trying them on to see if they'll fit.

Why would you wear jeans and a hoodie over a nice set of leathers? i suppose we should be thankful for small mercies; you don't wear a baseball cap sideways under your helmet.

well my dainese are old race leathers old owner sent them down the track a few times so a couple of holes here n there (little ones) they make them look really rugged

they are red and white so doesn't go too well with most bikes

and i find i get too cold in just leathers so i put something over the top to stop windchill a bit more etc.

also it's the fact of cops.....you wear one piece dainese and i got pulled over often and repeatedly got told...you look like your out for a hoon.

this way... **i'm just heading to the local shops**is what it says to a cop...well this is the theory
