    Seen a kdx, help needed

    Hi,
I saw a KDX200 today and i'm quite keen but was wondering if anyone could help with a couple of questions.

It smoked more than it should to start with for a 2-stroke but after a good run it did't seem so bad. The owner said he's been running it on a 5 to 1 mix and this seemed to be to much oil. Would this do any long term damage.

Also on the front wheel hub on the other side to the disc there was a plastic bit but it had black tape on it. When I pulled the tape off it was bunged with silicone sealant, I'm guessing it might of been the grease nipple. But not sure is this a problem/expensiv4e to fix.

Also the number on the top tube was JKADXNH11VA021183, can anyone tell me the age.

    Thanks

I'd say you heard wrong, 25 or 35-1 is more likely

It's not uncommon for two strokes to smoke a lot on start up and then get better as they warm up and the choke come off

There's a good site for KDX here

    http://www.dirtrider.net/justkdx/
"If you can make black marks on a straight from the time you turn out of a corner until the braking point of the next turn, then you have enough power."

KDX is enduro model right? If so is it possible the part on the front hub you are referring to is the speedo drive?

ring a Kawasaki dealer with the JKADXNH11VA021183
they should be able to tell you over the phone.

I also think the bunged up hole was probable the speedo drive.

But I have never had a KDX

    Cheers

5 to 1..............doubt that it would even run and if it did it would be seconds before the plug was well and truely fouled. Also, agreed that it sounds like the speedo connection that has been sealed up, this should be an easy check.

PRETTY SURE ITS A 97, WOULD HAVE TO CHECK ON MONDAY AT WORK, PM ME IF YOU WANT ME TO
10TH DIGIT TELLS THE YEAR, v IS 97,

DEF A ODO DRIVE ON RH SIDE OF FRONT WHEEL, NO PROBS WITH IT BEING SILOCNES UP

I AGREE 5 TO ONE IS WAY OVER THE TOP, SHOULD BE 40: 1 IF YOU ARE RUNNING A GOOD SYNTHETIC OIL, KAWASAKI RECCOMEND 32: 1 BUT THEY TEND TO SMOKE AND SPOOGE OIL UP AROUND THE EXHUST AT THIS

Yes the hole on the front is just the drive for the speedo and is not a problem, I glued a small cap in my old one to seal the hole. They normally smoke quite a bit when cold but it should almost dissapear when warm. If he was running it at 5:1 it would probably not run.

There really isn't alot to these bikes, if it looks like it has been looked after then it probably has.
