30 k's each way daily from Storks Valley to Welly. Two lanes of half asleep 2ZB wankers in both directions. Not the best commute, but it keeps me on my toes.
Better than the cage.

Used to ride over the Rotoma's both ways each day when I lived at Lake Rotoma, Now that I'm in Kawerau I miss the daily ride. With the bike being off the road for the last 3 months its been hitching a lift with a work mate 6km each way.

Try commuting in England! It makes all your commutes sound like a dream fantasy. Traffic so thick you are better off on a bicycle. I can get the 6 miles to work quicker on the bicycle than on the CG125 (bragging now) let alone a car. I am afraid to say the golden age of motoring has passed here. Not bad out in the new forest but 40mph speed limit, fun!! NZ is great, my favourites are the Arthurs and the Lewis passes. Yes I'm from the South Island, but I,m sure just as good in the North. I made the mistake of doing too much highway one in retropect. I'm getting depressed now but never mind the bicycle is ready.
I used to have a great one until 5 years ago (Twizel - Mount Cook) ...great road, sensational scenery. Now I'm in Christchurch and my current commute is from Parklands in the north-east to the foot of the Cashmere hills in the south of the city and the 1.5 kilometres in the middle of that trip (Anzac Drive / Dyers Road) is through the middle of the city's sewage settling ponds. Exceptionally smelly it's been over the past two weeks too ... so much so that I've regulated my breathing so as not to breath too deep and on a couple of occasions the week before last I just held my breath as long as I could.
Grow older but never grow up
I live on top of the hills in banks peninsula outside Christchurch.
I have a 25km or so commute to work thru first rolling hills with switchbacks, then a bit of flat straight stuff, then some more hills(the infamous Port Hills in fact)then a short drag straight up Colombo Street thru a few sets of lights with the usual cellphone yakking, blind as bats, deaf as posts and just plain stupid car drivers doing their best to spoil my day(or my life!).
On the hole tho,its a blast and makes going to work almost worth it and going home something to really look forward to.![]()

Hop on my mountainbike. Ride 300m. On the back wheel. At work.
Another typical Auckland one here - 20k. Nearly all through traffic (Titirangi Rd, Gt Nth Rd, lanesplit the SH16 into central Aukland). First and last bit home twistiest little bit of scenic drive. I breathe a sigh of relief as I hit the Titirangi village roundabout and I'm away! Worth it for that last few ks every day.

Best blast soundtrack:Born to be wild (Steppenwolf)
Best sunny ride: Runnin' down a dream (Tom Petty)
Don't want to hear ...: Slip, slidin' away, Caught by the Fuzz or Bam Thwok!(Paul Simon/Supergrass/The Pixies)
I live on the Coro loop.
My commute is the Thames coast.
No traffic.
Well .... when I'm not throwing bikes away, I've got a primo commute, Paekakariki Hill Rd against the traffc.
The whole ride is 30km each way starting with SH58 around Pauatahanui Inlet which is nice in itself and then it's on to the hill road. Not a shabby package at all - 11.1km from Grays Rd to SH1 at Pakekakriki, 157 corners which is a corner every 70metres or 14 corners per km ... and I miss it.
A couple of other KBers (Sparky Bills & RG100) share the route but in the busy direction. Me, I got really narked off when I had to pass 2 cars in one morning.
i can go 3 or 4 different ways to work, but my most common route is the longest. from home, right along the river and over the cobham bridge [which is an 80k zone] through the roundabout and through some roadworks. up the long straight and arrive. takes about 30 mins, and was chosen due to the minimal amount of white paint, which is a bonus given its now wet and i finish work at about 7pm.
the other routes id be dodging cars and school kids who appear to be blind. and in the wet, those routes take twice as long.

the really happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery when on a detour.
Me.
Bus from Newlands to town and bus from town to Newlands.
Lucky for me though, I get to hear the Guzzi get started, warmed up and gone off down the road with Mrs riding to work.
Betcha you can't compete with that !!
"...you meet the weirdest people riding a Guzzi !!..."
5 mins to work at 8:20 in morning, spend all day talking, looking at, sometimes riding, polishing, and selling(yeah right) motorbikes, then 5 mins back home.
Used to have a 20min commute up & down West Coast Highway, Perth. Not too bad with all the windsurfers doing their thing with the Fremantle Doctor coming in.
