Welcome!
Looks like you've got your head screwed on. Don't let anyone pressure you into doing anything you don't feel comfortable with. Take it easy, learn at your own pace and you'll be amazed how fast you gain confidence. Always nice to see another biker that doesn't mind getting their feet (or anything else) wet. I know one guy that said he'd only ride in the dry - next wet day I got to work and there's his bike in the carpark (that term really is a bit prejudice!). I think he got the bug same as you. Good on ya!

Hey Sam, hope you enjoy the riding of the motorbikes, i'm sure you will.![]()
Good on ya Sam for getting a bike and getting out there. I hope you really enjoy it. I was going to get a GN250 to, as I saw them as a great idea especially for commuting. They have a pretty good name for reliability.
I too got a bike on Saturday. I bought a very nice Suzuki GSX750F from a guy in Hamilton. I picked it up Saturday morning, and rode home to Whangarei, with my son driving my car back .... keeping an eye on his old dad, just in case he fell off !! lol.
I've had my full licence for 38 years, but it has been about 35 years since I rode a bike!! Apart from some recent demo's I've had on bikes from local dealers, and a couple of demo's on some nice scooters ..... I just haven't ridden anything on two wheels, except my mountain bike!
Man was it fun!! I think I grinned from Hamilton all the way to Whangarei, stopping twice for coffee breaks along the way.
So Sam, I can appreciate your excitment with your new bike, and wanting to get out there and learn new stuff. For me, it felt familiar fairly quickly, but I will need .... and fully intend to take it easy while I learn about riding again, and come to grips with my bike. That all takes a bit of time ... with a real attitude to safety ... and staying alive, as nearly everyone driving a tin top .... won't see you, or won't consider you on the road!!! (well at least thats the atitude you need to have!) Be very AWARE !!
Take care and have fun on your GN !!
Cheers,
Grant.
