next time your local event needs sponsorship contact the american guys you are getting items off, i would like to hear the response, NZ motorcycle shops do not have outragous margins compared to other companies and the extra tends to be because of the distrubtor margin.

My read as a buyer is also that if there is a big price differential is that it's the distributor, I actually got a bit of a shock when I was in the states last time, alot of things were similar pricing ( if not higher, eg knee guards ), there are exceptions like Renthall Twin Bars ( just try & get those home though, damn things didn't fit in my bag ), but it defies logic that it's the shops who are doing the gouging, the kiwi website pricing is to competitive compared with Australia web sites for instance.

I'm not sure about anyone else, but I can live with 20-25% extra, after all there is GST & you do get local support etc, but in the case of the Leatt's it sounds more like 250-300% extra, which is crazy, it's way to easy now to bypass "local" shopping regulations & you create a chicken & egg, you keep the prices up due to low volume & get low volume because so many get the product from overseas.

i think the leatt is out of line as well, and their is underlining issues why they are not in a lot of dealers as well,

as for Shayne King having a monoply, thats bullshit, their are about 10 distributors in NZ (if anything their are to many for shops to keep up with), he is not the biggest, he has a few brands which he has promoted well and people want, (astars, no fear, pro circuit to name some) he sponsors more nz riders than any one else so he is far from the devil,

the australia reference is the best, our pirces are very simlar to thiers, in fact i often sell gear off my website into Aussie, even with the freight they says its better priced,
last time i went to the states i noticed somethings were better priced, and some things where about the same, one thing i notcied was the staff new fuck all, they were check out operators and thats about it, its a different world over their, the numbers of bikes and gear they sell is in another realm,

i just wanted to make the point, alot of people get into the Bike Industry in NZ for excessive margins etc, and we do get a bit defensive,

I have a few NZ suppliers and it doesn't seem to matter if the dollar goes up, it seems the price that I get stuff for never goes down, always up. If anything my margins just get tighter because.....well I don't really know why I should absorb the cut really, just seems that I do. Other wise my prices would be going up each month.
FWIW I did import some boots and a seat once and by the time customs had finished with it I could have got them cheaper here and recieved more support when the boots started to fall apart.
Any business has to be profitable, and when you have a building the size needed by the likes of Crown Kiwi, and the staff to deal with orders etc (as well as the financial risks) and take risks on keeping stock, some of which may never end up moving, well I don't think its any surprise that it costs more to have stuff available the next day rather than having to wait and hassle with over seas orders, customs etc.
I've been burn't importing stuff for my personal use. For me its just not worth the hassle. I'd rather buy locally now. Each to their own though.
Even the seals that I import for my job I have to bring in in small amounts or I get hit buy Customs making the exercise just not worth while, or the seals to expensive.

How may events are sponsored by suppliers in NZL? I thought most events were paid for via the entry fee?

You raise a good point - the more stuff i buy from the states the worse the $NZ dealers do, and the more they have to charge...

ok so i have found out these things are actually south african.

the prices i have found are SA R2700(nz$503), USA$395 (nz$520), aus$695 (nz$780) and nz$1200 for the base model. this is a crazy mak up and seems rediculous as you could buy 2 from SA or USA for the price of 1 in nz and that will include shipping

guess i am getting mine form south afica now

Brace Yourself‎

Hi guys - I was asked to forward the message below. I wouldn't normally sendout anything other than emails about the track to the guys on the AMAdatabase but I had a visit from Simone Harrison last week and she showed methe website with the Leatt neck braces. 5. Posterior Hypertranslation: rearward movement of the head/helmet on theneck.

what do they cost to make?
they are so bloody dear.
i know you will say they are cheaper than a broken neck.
but ive got 2 small kids 3 and 5 and they'l out grow them so bloody fast wont they?
if they make them that small.
also how much better are they than the foam neck rolls you can get?
