So it's not a 5? And? It's also got an arse load of power, killer brakes, a crazy arse chassis. How much closer to a motogp bike do you think you'll need?

I've not ridden a current fireblade. But I've ridden an earlier CBR1000RR and it is very much a road bike. It's not a bad bike, it's a great bike with a fantastic engine, but it's no dedicated race bike. And it does not have a crazy arse chassis, it's predictable and stable. Honda don't sell crazy arse bikes. That would be un-Honda these days.

I don't *need* it (No one does on the road) but I couldn't possibly park a fireblade in my shed and believe that I had something approximating a MotoGP bike unless I was one some strong medication.

I think you give them too much credit. Sure a motogp bike is an open wallet affair, but other than that there's nothing particularly magical about them. I'm not sure how much closer to a motogp bike you want to get?

Lots closer. LOTS AND LOTS closer. The forks, or brakes, or wheels, or....are worth more than your bike (and probably my race ones) all put together. and thats worth not just in a monetary sense, in a usibility and ABility sense too. GP bikes are something Magic....and big GP bikes (MotoGP or 500cc) are so far removed from reality bikes like the poxy, slow, boring GSXR/CBR-RR/ZX-R/YZF-R derivitives (in comparison) that a GP bike (other than the 'obtainable' 125's and 250's) is something really, really special, and, indeed Magical.

They're just bikes... open your wallet and pour. Sure from a poor persons point of view, they're something else, but they're just metal... Tasty bits aside for a minute, just how much more motogp do you want your road bike to be? (No point comparing to a racebike, else you'd just have the motogp bike).

• An engine lubricated with Dani Pedrosa's tears
• The pillion seat banished
• A V shaped engine
• An 800cc engine
• 16.5" wheels
• Carbon fibre everything
• Titanium that
• Ceramic brakes
• No thought to comfort what-so-ever
• No wussy electronic steering damper
• At least 200hp
• I'll let them put in a starter motor
• The preserved urine of Soichiro Honda sprinkled on the bike before it leaves the clean room where the bike was assembled by albino japanese midgets in oompa-loompa suits

Okay, such a bike would be unworkable on the road. And even at a track a twit like myself would probably fall off in the pitlane. But it wouldn't it be cool?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the day Honda sell a proper V4 sports bike again, I'll be there. With the requisite pile of money.

I hope Mr Sennandy finds his dream bike. I don't really have one at the moment. Buy my GSXR!

Heh, most of that you can buy (dunno about Pedrosa's tears though.. but if he doesn't win a race soon, surely there will be no shortage ). I do wonder just how more psychotic they can make the bikes... ok, comparitively speaking the blade might be 'tame' to an 04 ZX10R, but there is still massive respect that needs to be had.

I want a full pit crew warming my bike up in the morning, tuning, checking. I want brolly dollys, I want two bikes (one with wets just in case it's rainingthat day), I want gophers cleaning my leathers and helmet (oooh). That's a start.

I worked on the Rumi 45's in '96 and they still hold a special place in the bikes to have. Factory unobtainium bits were cool, but they certainly weren't the best bike in many ways. But the GSXR's, ZXR's, etc, of the same era don't seem to have the same desirabilty today. I thought a guy was selling a 45 about 3 months ago on trade me, starting price $20k, if my memory is any good. The sound with Termigoni carbon mufflers at 14k rpm going past is very memorable.
