Funniest thing I have witnessed was a couple of years ago taking a short bus ride in the city. Driver got cut off by this woman in a car. He proceeded to "chase" her, using some very erratic driving indeed. He was so pissed off! Got on to K Road and finally stopped at some lights, this bus driver was out the door of the bus giving this woman a huge serve, including the timeless phrase "did you get your license from a ceral packet?". What was the funniest thing though he was so incensed his driving got worse and worse. There were a couple of asian chicks sittingn in the seat directly behind him. He slammed the brakes on so hard they literally flew out of their seats.

Was bad enough sitting on the bus, hate to think what it was like travelling anywhere near the mad man while he was doing his road rage driving.

worst driver ive seen has to be the orange flyer that goes from Welly to Lower Hutt - everyday around 3pm, this driver forces its way along hte road, cutting off cars elft right and centre. Even has the cheek to sit in the fastlane till the very last minute then indicates and swerves left to go over hte Petone offramp.

Had a mate actually on the bus one time and the bus rear ended a van -all the passengers gave the driver shit as the driving had been terrible prior also.

Well admittedly it was my fault this time, i cut one off purely on accident. However they way he treated me was pathetically threaten. I was very tempted to teach him a real lesson. He somewhat kept yelling your Fucken done mate your fucken Done. He wouldn't let it go that it was in fact an accident. If anything comes from this i will be laying a formal compliant.

If the recruitment policy is anything like the Auckland one it could explain a lot
    1) Go to a neighbouring Pacific Island (where traffic density is so low it's beyond belief)
    2) Find anyone wanting money with a driver's license more then 2 years old
    3) Fly them to NZ, let them loose in 8 tonnes of Mecedes finest in rush hour traffic and tell them to be careful.

ummm - need I really say more?
$2,000 cash if you find a buyer for my house, kumeuhouseforsale@straightshooters.co.nz for details

Some of them are pretty hairy. And not very good road citizens.

But, in fairness, in Auckland at any rate, it's a shit of a job. There's no way they can keep up with the schedules they're given, even if they drive like demons. They cop a shit load of crap from the less refined of their clientele. And there's an always present danger of being mugged.

And they also get a really shit deal on shifts: broken shifts, rosters, night shifts, no meal breaks, not even supposed to leave the bus to take a piss. And the responsibility of cash handling on top. And for piss all pay.

I spent a week riding round on buses a year or few ago, doing some research on public transportatrion, and talked a bit to the friendlier ones

Also just thought of this today funnily enough. The thing that REALLY grates my nads, is how the cops turn a blind eye to them! With quite a few people I know getting tickets recently for going through orange lights (early orange even) - and yet almost on a daily basis I'll cross the road (as a pedestrian) at a traffic light (on the green man), and nearly get taken out by a bus.

They WILL NOT stop for an orange light no matter how late it is, and I've seen quite a few do this even on a late red (when the green has already come on for me to cross). Today one nearly took out a lady while a cop car sat in the other lane. Didn't even bat an eyelid. Bloody tw@ts.

I can understand that they need to keep to their schedules, otherwise the folks on the buses are likely to get pissed off - but not at the cost of road safety, I dont care how late they are.

Oh yeah. Bus drivers (Gulp) some of them here on the North Shore have a habit of pulling sharply to the right out of the bus stop without even indicating.
