    Sunday 17 June Auckland ride.

Right, I'm allowed out to play (albeit briefly), so if anyone wants to join me on Sunday morning for a ride from Riverhead to Kuakopakopa to Puhoi and back.....

Meet at Riverhead Shell station (by the roundabout) at 8.15, depart 8.30, I'm on a blue DR650 and all and sundry are welcome.

Rough route is: Old north road, Inland road, Kaukopkopa........5 minute pause while I look for a map......bugger, can't find it!
The rest I will make up on the day, but you get the idea? Coffee at Puhoi and any suggestions or variations on this theme welcome...I need to be back about 1ish.

Hey guys, could be keen for this depending on how i'm feeling after my b'day the day before.
I'm from Riverhead and do this ride most weekends on the KLX when the weather is ok

I've found this to be the best route, it's aporox 123km and takes about 2 hours to complete if you take your time.

From the shell, up decons rd to Arimu Valley road, through to Waitoki. From Waitoki go the back way to Waiwera (gravel and tarseal), which passes under the new motorway tunnel being built.Take a break at Waiwera. Head to Puhoi, stop at the pub for a drink (coke of course..), head through to Aharoa (sp?) which is mainly gravel and a very cool road. This comes out in Woodcocks (Inland road? You know the one) about 10km in, ride to the end, turn left on to SH16, stop at the lookout approx 5km from Kaukapapa then ride via Peak Rd back to Riverhead

Very good ride with lots of different views and surfaces approx 40% gravel 60% tarseal

Sounds like a good route, probably try to make it a bit more gravel and stay off the seal if possible. Be good to see you if you can make it!

You on full knobs? If so fair enough, i'm only on semi road semi gravel style tyres which is why I don't do too much gravel, but could still be keen
    Who else is keen??

If I'm not wrong (as usual); Deacons and Arimu Valley is sealed all the way to waitoki...?

If it is, I reckon kiwitahi rd (just north of woodhill), that would take us to kaukopa (gravel all the way), then kanohi rd to puhoi or waiwera (all gravel too).

Very much the ride we did the other day with rogson...?

The dirtier the merrier I say ... And I'm on semi knobs too censls so nothing to worry about there...

Arimu valley road is a mix of gravel and tarseal, runs up through some foresty type roads.
    But Kiwitahi sounds good too

You big guys on the 650s are going to leave me and my 250 behind..

The little bit on Ararimu valley and Bald hill roads is typical, if your riding that then you will have no problems with most roads in NZ. A lot of the guys are running very "street" tyres and going faster than me....bastards!

As long as your bike will do 100km's thats all you need, I've ridden with plenty of 250's on these types of rides and there has been no difference between them and the bigger bikes.

Grahame, you're really going to have to but some dual purpose tyres on that SV.......mind you it probably wouldn't be too hard to ride on these roads on road tyres, there is no deep gravel, it's mostly hard packed.

Sorry Crisis - don't mean to hijack your thread...

That would be a good use of an accident damaged sport bike - if you could re register it? - it looks cool. A friend has a damaged DL650 which has has fitted a drz400 front end on which would hopefully look something like this when completed. The sv ladder frame looks much better than the dl frame.

    cheers
