Help with my new CBR250...

Hi Everyone, I have now owned my brand new CBR250 for a couple of weeks now, and I am so happy with it.

It starts every morning first time, doesnt even need any choke. It seems to run really well once you get going.

However, it idles a little jumpy around 1000 rpm. And I have noticed that the throttle is quite jumpy at low speed (Hard to go slowly smoothly).

It does have a performance pipe, but the idle seems to be a bit lumpy.

The other slightly worrying thing is that I have notice it now three times that when just cruising along and changing into 3rd or 4th gear (Havent narrowed it down to which gear) it seems to make a horrible clunking (lasts for a couple of seconds) sound and eventually goes into gear.

If there is anyone that knows a bit about bikes that I could bring it too for a bit of advice or a look at it, I would be much appreciated. Im at Orewa so anyone in the Shore area would be great

I think I just need someones impartial opinion after already having the shop I bought it from telling me stuff (Not sure if I 100% trust what they tell me)

1000 rpm seems on the low side for idling on a bike like that. Do any of the other CBR riders know what the idle should be set to? Rough running at low speeds could be carb synch and pilot mixture settings. You'll find that even on a perfectly set up bike, at low speeds in first gear the throttle and transmission will be snatchy, that's why I generally shift up into second at really low speeds -- less power, to go anywhere fast you need to change down, but a lot smoother.

The gearbox thing does sound worrying. Are you pushing up on the lever until it eventually goes in? Or do you snick it in and then it crunches around?

Thanks for your reply, it actually sits on about 1500ish idle, so maybe that is about ok.

The gear change thing is... I shift up... hear crunch, sounds horrible, then without touching anything it goes into gear after a pause. Doesnt do it all the time, just occassionaly.

Sure you're kicking it into gear hard enough? Next ride concentrate on giving it good hard kicks and see if it still does it

What speed and what gear is it running jumpy at?

Hey dude, yep mine idles at 1500rpm warm, a little bit lumpy.

How's your chain tension? that seems to have an effect on shift quality on these bikes. You should be looking at about 25-35mm of vertical movement at the midpoint between the sprockets.

Mine idles at 1500RPM.

I'm pretty from reading on the net, that's the reccomended setting.

hi i've got a cibby idles at 1.5k/rpm which is normal yes they do sound lumpy at idle and touchy at low rev's they are a high revin bike and thats where they like to be, As for your clunky gear changes i would guess 1. chain tension 2. Has the oil been changed?. 3. is you clutch engaging correctly?

infact it does sound like your not clicking it into gear properly

the clunking on gear changes sounds like chain tension. my bike does the same thing when the chain is too loose.

Sounds to me that whats happening is its not being shifted into gear propperly.The gears are rubing intoone another than finally just dropping in .

I had HEAPS of problems with m CBR400RR gears initially. I kept switching it into neutral. I then had to really rape it into second or back into first as I was on a ride with the boys and redlining it in every gear

, but the thing is, you get used to switching gears properly.
