You could sell stuff that "fell off the back of a truck" if your that desperate.. Or if your an honest person you could try and get some corporate sponsors.

If you don't need the whole amount before he leaves, maybe you could rent out his room while he's gone. Having a boarder might help postpone some of the costs.

Unfortunately we need to pay in advance, apart from his spending money, which we will be able to put in his a/c monthly.

    All that bollocks.

These dils cost 25 quid a pop - a snip for the pleasure they'll give the recipients.
They send their cheques to the other company name. Nothing offensive, "Bobby's Bits" or something, for 25 quid.
You stick it in the bank until it clears.

    This is the smart bit.
You send back the cheque for 25 pound from the other company name - "Arse Ticklers Faggots Fan Club" - saying "we're sorry, we couldn't get supplies from America - they ran out of stock."

You see how many people cash that cheque.
    Not a single soul.

Because, who wants their bank manager to know they tickle arse when they're not paying in cheques?
You bloody rip off, I'm going to bank that cheque now.

Is this an area that you can approach a "pub charity" for?

They put a lot of money back into the community for reasons such as this.

    Bloody well done hXc!

Don't think that pub charities support this sort of thing, but can ask I guess.
Could always get a grant from Uncle Helen for 'study of students in a foreign environment'....
Hip hop studies are well cashed up, aren't they?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Now that is a thought - Seeing as the HipHop study was funded by a guvamint organisation what about this http://www.myd.govt.nz or http://www.studylink.govt.nz/

A "MotorCycle" tour to KB strong holds with local celebrities, have to be the NI as hXc is from the Sunny HB, and guests of honour.

Ring the NZ Lotteries Grants Board that is where all the money from lotto etc goes and they should be able to help. Just note that they aren't the same as the NZ Lotteries Commission as they are two different entities.

Write off to every local pub charity etc.

Talk to the local movie theatres - one of em will have a deal where you can rent it for a night and do a wine n cheese + movie deal (sell tickets) to your mates. We raised $800 in one night for ems Vietnam trip that way.

If you want a raffle - I'll sell you a 'quality' LCD TV and less than dealer (I work for a japanese corporate) you can raffle....

    Cheers

welcome to my world i habe 2 boys who represent Otago in 2 different sports and have done for several years so its always fundrasing for this and fundrasing for that if your boy goes to a big school see of you can get them to do a mufti day (as long as they wear uniforms) with a gold coin donation in a large school you could raise up to a grand with little effort, there are 2 boys going to america from my sons soccer team to represent NZ and they have to stump up with 3k each

Hi Guys. Good news about the scholarship. Down here in Poriruaville I was introduced to a thing called "Battons Up" as a fund-raiser. I hadn't run into it previously but maybe I led a sheltered life. It's often good for raising a grand at a time down here. There's a bit of variation but the pattern seems to be selling 100 $20 tickets with a number of prizes ranging from $500 to $50. A number is drawn, the winner picks an envelope from the stack, then the number goes back in the draw. My daughter picked up $500 last year.

Great Idea! My pa is or was (can't remember) on the board which deals with Taranaki applications. They'll look at anything and everything as long as you are a resident - your son's trip is the sort of thing they help with I believe.

Our local paper mill gave some sponsorship as well. She also worked in our shop after her studies were done for the day as she was homeschooled. Also friends pledged to support a regular amount while she was away $5 - $100 per month as each were able to. Try your local CAB citizens advice .... for places that give grants. With a bit of time to go one should be able to source the funds.
    All the best.
