Motarding for the road or track?

Just have to keep on top of the maintenance. My friend has owned a couple and have both have had problems but they have both been SX's. The EXC's can probebly handle alot more abuse. Just like every modern dirt bike they're not made to be ridden at high RPM's for lengthy amounts of time.

You should be fine. You'll have a ball on it.

For the road and occasionally the track.

I ride a 03 YZ250 so I'm used to the work behind dirt bikes lol

Great fun on the road, however there is one problem, a lack of an ignition key etc. You'll have to take a big chain and padlock with you.

I just sold a perfectly good Husaberg FS650 motard to pay the escalating cost of repairs to my perfectly knackered R1...go figure.
I found the motard to be fuggin' awesome fun.....on the right bit of road. Anything else on the open road is just a pain in the arse, literally. I live about 30km's from the 'taka's and while the fun to be had going over the hill was great, the ride getting there was equally lousy. The seat is like getting a wedgie with a bit of 4 x 2" and the riding position and engine characteristics severely limit any thoughts of exceeding the speed limit. Having said that, I could comfortably get over the 'taka's (without pushing it) quicker on the 'berg than I could on the R1, and the option of scooting up a dirt road does open your horizons.
Then there is the fuel range, about 100km's to a tank, so basically you have to fuel up at least once every time you go out.
Do you ride a YZ or YZF250? I'm guessing you already know the 4 stroke maintenance is higher, like oil/filter change every 10 hours, valve clearance every thirty hours, rocker arm replacement every 50hours etc. Hard riding and you can shorten these up even more. The 'berg only held a litre or so but the 5W-50 oil is exxy and isn't stocked everywhere.
The bottom line is the bloody things do brake and handle like nothing else but that performance comes at a cost.
