Boob's first bin thread including gory pics

    WOOT!!! Im out of hospital!!!

Well bugger me, what a couple of weeks its been. Firstly thanks for all the kind words guys, really appreciate it

Such a great community spirit here in KB'er

Ok so heres the low down....

    13th June,

I get let of work 3 1/2 hours early (really slow day) which isnt normal, so I leave work on me (currently mint) SR two fiddy & get to the main road......I have two choices, is it left (home) to New Plymouth or right to Waitara to visit dad?
Now my dad was meant to pop round on Monday & check out my fancy new flat but hadnt & I hadnt heard from him, his health is shit house at best these days so I decided to take the blue pill...I mean...turn right to Waitara.
Its 5pm ish with plenty of cars around. So off I go onto the main road and accellerate away. I was doing somewhere between 80 to 90, no more (limit 100). The next T intersection out of Bell Block is only 100 metres maybe 200 tops, im almost on top of it and an 18yr old girl (licienced for 6 months) pulls out. I had no chance, not even time to scrub off some speed with applied braking, just "flash"......and there she was right in front of me.
I stoved into her right front quarter just behind the front wheel. Now ive worked out for many years in the gym and am usually in good shape, but of late I had been at the gym heaps + my current temp assignment has had me doing a shit load of heavy lifting so upper body strength is pretty good. So when my front forks cave in & my left leg/knee stove into her car theres still alot of ernita (is that spelt right?), I must have gripped the bars pretty hard as they bent up, like almost completely up right lol (thats alot of force). After that I went flying over the bonnet and landed 20 feet away on the road.
I dont remember too much after the impact, I faded in & out of consiousness, which is lucky as the dispatch sent 3 ambulances to wrong adresses that day including mine, so it was 30 mins late, made no dif to me, I had no idea lol.

Anyway not only are they late but the bastards chopped up my brand new bike pants & the steel caps (work issue). The weird thing was they left the one perfect condition boot on the side of the road and they bought the one boot they cut to bits with us in the ambulance (wtf??) lol. Anyway...by the time we get to hospital I came round a bit, im going through the ER unit and I recognise my GP, so I say "hey I know u"....Steve smiles walks over to me and grabs my (obviously) dislocated thumb and yanks it back into place before I even knew what he'd done lol, then just walks off.
Then some qwack I didnt know is askin me if I have any back pain & im sayin "na mate, all good back there, the pain is all in my left leg/pelvis. But he ignores me anyway and starts rolling me over to feeling around to check, now by this time im in full vocal "ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR......FUCKKKKKKK", but the prick keeps going, me old man was about to hit him with his zimmer frame after the third stab lol.
So they take me off somewhere & knock me out good & proper as the next time I wake ive got a farkin huge steel pin through my left knee (5 or 6mm "Steinman" pin roughly 12 inchs long) so they can put me in traction. Apparently the ball at the top of the thigh bone (thema) smashed into the socket it sits in on my pelvis & did a fair bit of damage, fracture & various splinters.
They proceed to tell me they have someone who can do the job but due to the seriousness of my injury they reckon nothing short of the top dude in the country is the man for the job. So on the following Sunday they fly me to Auckland, under the knife Monday, flay back to New Plymouth Wednesday and out today (Monday 25th).

Plenty of details in between but im getting tired & have crapped on enough I think

Ok ok, just a couple of things....

    1) dont take what nurses have to say for gospel. I fired one, she was absolute crap, fully didnt have my best interests at heart. She had me in alot of unneccssary pain. She took me off the epidural the very next day after i had 9 pins & a plate screwed to me pelvis when I could have stayed on for another 3/4 days to recover then on top of that holds out on the introvenious morphine instead favouring shitty lil pills that wernt working. Id been on my own "PCA" morph in NP prior the pain was so bad & yet not now?? Anyway, so she got the boot & I got the good juice mainlinded pretty quick after that.

    2) Farkin Middlemore hospital charges $5 a DAY for free to air TV (channel 1 to 4) and a further $3 for 5 basic SKY channels (total $8 per day). What a bloody rip man!! The SKY I can understand but not FREE to air TV ffs. Scumbags in jail are getting LCD TV's for free & I have to pay $5 a day for a 14" tube in a hospital??? That shit just aint right!!!

    Ok lessons learned....

Even though I wasnt at fault, not even close, still a good lesson to be had. I have a refreshed sense of caution (very healthy). So to all you guys n gals just remember even when your not playing up you can still get taken out with not even a chance of avoiding it

Oh shit, nearly forgot, the new bike I bought!!

I win the auction on Monday night the 11th . Some "funky" bidding was going down on the auction but I felt it was still good value for money & it was still inside my budget. So I call the guy & say "Hey Darian, its me Antony, I won the auction". We had been talking for sometime back n forth on the phone over the coming week and a half prior. He was meant to meet me in Te Kuiti (half way point) a few days before auction close for a closer inspection but had backed out due to weather even though he could put the bike on a trailer and I was still keen to meet him. Anyway so I took a punt & had one & the final winning bid.
We were chatting away about pick up date & I say I can meet him in te kuiti on Saturday & hes happy with that. I mentioned to him a particular bidder (from the same city as the seller) was bidding in much higher amounts than me (other bidders in $10 amounts & this other bidder bids in $150 amounts).........very dodgy, esspecially since I spoke to him the day before the auction closed & according to him im the only one who had called & no one had come round to look at it yet he still insisted he continue the auction process.

So anyway, the next day he calls me at work and leaves a message on my cellphone confirming the pick up details on Saturday in Te Kuiti and that he wanted my driver licience details so he could transfer ownership of the bike into my name so I could "ride away as the happy owner" from Te Kuiti. Im like WTF!!! Who the hell signs over a vehicle prior to meeting the person let alone sighting the vehicle. So I call him and explain im a little concerned as even the mention of this seems a little odd and doesnt give me alot of confidence. he tried to say "oh well dont u want the bike" to which I replied "you know how keen I am on the bike, ive called you plenty of times & ive bid without seeing it, trusting that you have accurately described it". Anyway so he backs down after I explain its normal to fill in the paper work at the time of sale and its perfectly legal and there is no chance of getting my speeding tickets etc.

The next day he sends a txt message saying he had sold the bike to someone else because he was pissed at the way I spoke to him & that I wasnt committed to the trade and didnt want to pay full price???
He had no idea I had binned my bike & was in hospital but was still keen as mustard on the deal. He wouldnt take my calls & ignored my txts, so I told him he had to honour the trade as it was a legal and binding contract & that I was push this point legally if required on top of posting pretty horrible feedback on what turned out to be his wifes account. So long story short he paid me $200 hush money lol.

PS: still looking for a new bike as me SR is written off from what I can gather. May be fixable will have to see, either way I will be purchasing a new bike.

    Heres the pics....

(will add the pics of the written off bike shortly)

Edit: MattRSK beat me to it, but mine should work as I didn't just copy over the shortened URL, I used the full address, KB shortens them after posting.

It's great you can still type and stuff, welcome back Boob.
I like how it happened on your SR and not the big bike, it would have been too much of a cliche for you to crash on the big bike just after you got it.

How long will you be off work for?
Will you be able to go back to your old line of work, or is it time to change careers / begin something that won't aggravate your hip?
    Are you in a wheelchair?
Are you at home at the mo, or at the flat?

    Hope it works out.
    Manly hug to you mate!

Holy shit boob, that's one hell of a nasty accident! And then the trademe guy fucking you around as well, that's just not cool! I hope that 18 year old girl got the shock of her life. Damages? Compensation? Careless driving casing injury? Any of the above... she'll know to look out for motorbikes now. Shame it had to be you to teach her that lesson!

Hope your healing goes well mate.

Yeah real lucky, either way the bike was written off so kinda didnt matter what one it was.

Not sure about work yet, prolly wont be able to go back, but it was only a temp job anyway so no drama. Ive been trying to get on the rigs so ill continue to do that in the mean time. Im on crutches, no chair, but ive got a BUTT load of physio to do over the next 3 months+ on the hip & my left hand. Im staying at my dads in Waitara this week then ill go stay with me mum in New Plymouth then head on back to the dude ranch (my flat ) after that. Just really need my own transport asap, bloody frustrating not being able to pick up and go when you want

    Nasty sums it up lol

yeah apparently the girl was in complete and utter shock, really feeling genuinely bad, tears n all that shit. She is being done for dangerous driving causing injury. Her insurance is paying out for my bike, but still not sure of the figure yet. So at least thats something. In one sense im pissed off about it but hey at the end of the day we are all humans and we make mistakes. Im sure she will learn from this and take alot more care. But as you said someone has to pay the ultimate price for it.

Im a firm believer everything happens for a reason so im currently looking for the silver lining, I know its there, just gotta sniff it out. From every bad situation comes some good
