    Cost to ship bikes

Anyone out there had a quote to ship a bike or had a bike shipped?

    if so let everyone know:

    Who shipped it?
    What was the service like?
    From where?
    To where?
    How much?

I had a quote from Biketranz to ship from Dunedin to Palmy North - $340
    Same price from Mainfreight too.

This subject has been done a few times, try doing a search. Personally have used Biketranz before and they've been good. Price sounds OK to me. Also with them thats their job shifting bkes so with their truck it just goes straight in without you having do anything.

    transport

had a delivery from efficient freight co thursday at work, they do furniture, but on board was a triumph bike going to new plymouth, was tied to wall, although not part of their normal freight they may be worth a costing, have offices in auck, wgtn and napier.i've used them to ship a fridge from auckland, mag wheels and tyres from tauranga to hawera and cost was $90inc gst each time, and items were approx 1cu mtr so bike would be similar cu mtr.

Bike tranz are great. That is a good price. They will look after your bike like it was their own. Some time delays but worth it

biketranz do a good job, wouldnt use them though if the bike wasnt worth it (would go moving company / mainfreight instead)

I'd be careful using a non-specialist bike mover.

Many of the general cargo guys won't touch bikes because they are easy to damage (if not in a crate).

Also, if it does get broken, the carriers liability is limited by the Carriage of Goods Act and they will probably turn down any claim because of insufficient packaging anyway.

Oh, and you should make sure you have insurance for the movement (in case of above) and some insurance companies will insist you use a specialist Bike mover.

    Good Luck

I just used "Motorcycle Movers"....$525 from Arrowtown to Hamilton...thay were $25 more than Biketranz but Im really happy with them, my bike was unmarked and wasn't packed in like a sardine....all they move is motorcycles and they seem good at it......they also rang a few times to keep me up to date on their progress.....I'm a happy chappy..
