How to look like an idiot...

    In one easy lesson...

Washed the bike this morning and cruised down to Albany to pick up a drill for my son-in-law - had a nice ride there and back and stopped in at a mate's workshop on the way back to let him know I wasn't with my company any more. Had a nice chat and left. So far, so good.

Decided to cruise on out to see Classic_Z and turned off onto Whangaparaoa Rd and preceeded out to his workshop. Also, so far, so good. I was feeling fine and idled into his workshop, pulled up behind a car off to one side, blipped the throttle to announce my arrival, (well, okay, just to hear the V-twin exhaust reverbrate through the shop...), switched off and proceeded to dismount... Guess who forgot to put the side stand down...?

It all happened in gentle slow motion and I found myself lying flat on my back in hysterics with the bike laying on my leg!!!!

Tim and a couple of mates who happened to be there, rushed over in bemused disbelief at what they'd just witnessed and picked the bike up and helped me to my feet. Not too much damage, just folded the footboard up over-centre requiring a tap with the plastic mallet and slightly bent the spotlight, easily straightened. Worst damage was to my ego! This sort of thing NEVER happens to me! It's always something you hear about some other twit doing!!!!

    Still can't believe it!

Ummm! Looking for a job that doesn't involve driving a horrible little truck....

Sorry to leave in a way as I enjoyed the job overall, but my back has been getting worse and after hurting it once too often and the Doc telling me to stop driving it for 28 days, I decided it just wasn't worth the pain anymore and told the boss it wasn't fair on the company either if I wasn't up to it and handed my notice in, so as of last Friday, I am officially unemployed. Boss wasn't too pleased, but understood my situation.

Got a few feelers out and waiting for responses.

Ed, ed, ed. Ego! Get over it mate.

So you dropped the bike - so did I this week.
The odds are eventually everyone who isn't a complete nanna will.
Stuff the ego, and stuff getting out of shape about a machine - if you break 'em - fix 'em - then ride 'em till they break again. JUST A MACHINE and gravity and physics are imutable.

Now go and give yourself an upper cut, HTFU and have a nice night. ;-P

Dropped my CB750 in similar fashion once. Took the weight just as it went over and couldn't hold it. Gently lowered it to the ground and had to get the wife to help. Not a scratch on it! Felt like a damn fool though. Glad to see I'm not the only one!

I think you've underrated the commaradery value

Sympathies Ed! As Big Dave said, we all do it sooner or later. Did the same thing with the 'bird a couple of years ago through not making sure that the side stand was fully forward. Thank god for crash bungs! Yeah, my ego took a bit of a dent too as my wife and one of her mates was watching!

ROFLMAO Ed, thanks for the great giggle mate.
I have to laugh everytime I hear about someone else doing this, I have done similar things twice over the years and it never fails to make me cringe and laugh at the same time.
Good luck with the job hunting mate.
