Always wanted to do the Waikarimoana on the bike.....and like Big Dave I do prefer a pub bed to a sleeping bag these days
Experience......something you get just after you needed it
pub or sleeping bag in a shed - I don't care as long as there is lots and lots of gravel and good company. And please make it sooner rather than later ... I need another fix....
Toughen up ya big Jessie. I'll bring a big bottle of Harden-Up Liquid for you, it's got 'Laphroaig' written on it.
When I say the shearers quarters is 'salubrious' & 'really good' I'm not shitting ya, It's a fairly modern building with a big log burner & an endless supply of native firewood. There's a proper kitchen, big dining/drinking area, a bunkroom with about 6 beds & a couple of twin bedrooms. We can even arrange to have a supply of beer waiting for us in the chiller.
Those that want to come on the ride but have a morbid fear of sleeping bags could stay at the Matawai pub, it's about 45min riding before the Station.
18/19 Aug is good with me. If we decide to do Motu-Waikaremoana, once we have a tentative date I'll call up Rob & Ann & check that the shearers quarters are available, they usually are around this time of year.
Cheers

It's getting to the stage where I'm embarrassed to ask TNZ for the Scrambler again - I've borrowed one for 4 ADV rides and a Tour already.
Given it lots of press and interweb coverage - but there is a point where it's ...you know.
If I'm taking the Buell it will be subject to the weather and conditions. The heavily treaded road tyres are miserable on wet gravel. They are 90% Road Bias. OK on dry. They just roll over the top if it's slippery and it's a shitful time - and as yet there are no knobbies available in the correct size.
See what eventuates.
And apart from that - I haven't GOT a sleeping bag.
Find us a pub Clint. (With an ironing board for the petticoats)

Yep, it's still there, it's a good pub.
Here's the ride report from last time: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146148
