Red face Clint's suggested ride - suitable for larger machines?

apologies in advance if this Q has already answered Clint, but is the ride you're contemplating and seem to have got quite a few enthused about suitable for half way competent rdiers like myself on large machines (1150 GS running TCK's) or is a ligther machine like a DR going to be the go for this trip?

    Cheers to all - Aslan

[QUOTE=Big Dave;1119566]It's getting to the stage where I'm embarrassed to ask TNZ for the Scrambler again - I've borrowed one for 4 ADV rides and a Tour already.

I wonder if a comparison test with my modified one could swing the deal your way.

    Apologies accepted. See post #9

You'll have no problems on a TKC shod GS.

I thought you would be more worried about the width of the road Steve! You have got to make sure there is plenty of clearance for those cylinder heads.....

Not on the front - would foul the chin spoiler and muffler (weird bike huh - front wheel fouling the Muffler) - and the belt drive buggers up the back wheel options.

Like I say - if the conditions are fair - it's cool - if its NZ rain - it's doable - but it's not much fun. Will it tuck will it tuck will it tuck.

There is a 160 wide rear by avon that some guys reckon is OK - I see a rubber band on an egg when I look at the skinny thing.

I have the gene that likes fat rear tyres.

I have some other options too - KR might have something - I need a date before I can explore them.

This GS is up for a bit of road widening.
Motu-Waikaremoana for 18/19 Aug sounds good to me.

I'm thinking of doing it on this - subject to appropriate setting-up and a "scare-factor" test on gravel first.
Minimum requirements are DP tyres both ends and probably a fork brace (skinny forks).
19" front DP tyre no probs, 16" rear - ummm...........
Suspension may be the no-go hurdle. Front is air assist, so can pump up to prevent bottoming, and might have a quick look for stiffer springs. But I suspect it might be hard to get rid of the feeling on gravel that I'm pushing a soft noodle around. Rear is "full-floater" with preload but no other adjustments, so not much (cheap) can be done there.

Alrighty, since there seems to be some interset in Motu-Waikaremoana on the 18/19 August I'll enquire about shearer's quarters availability tonight.

And Big Dave, you can borrow my little sister's sleeping bag if you want:

    Cheers

Same prob - only 160's - Ulendo rates them - and he's a good man - but he's also a jockey on a 900 - and I'm the opposite end of the scale.

Waikaremoana is all new ground for me. Can someone please post a map to show where the ride is likely to go (start and finish points) I can then work out the logistics of attending.
