Don't know you Big Dave at all but if you were considering a tenere, may be worth having a look at this puppy, I didn't even know they made them that big...
specs are here
That peaky mudguard off the fairing resembles the newer BMW quite a bit huh? BMW ripping styling of a jap bike from the 90s?
later,
Windboy.
I rode one of those.
Wow. It's one of those beast that after you ride it the first time, your hands are shaking and yer gibbering things like "...holyshitIgottagitmeoneadose..."
No disrepect to Dave, but that's waaaay more bike than he needs on gravel.
Me, on the other hand...
Just talked to Ann at Journey's End Station, the shearer's quarters are available 18 August & she has offered to cook us one of her legendary dinners & stock the chiller with beer for us![]()
Zukin's map is a rough guide apart from Journey's End which is actually on the inland side of hwy 2 up the Koranga Valley behind Matawai. Funnily enough Wairangi near Arowhana where the overnight stop is marked is another station I know well, a family friend managed it for years, an expedition up though there would be a good summer trip.
Would you bastards please stop putting up pics of the 950 SuperEnduro, I'm trying to save up for a workshop/house & you're not bloody making it easy
No use to you, you wouldn't be able to catch her, she's way faster on gravel than you are
Cheers
Clint
Mr 3rd person would like to feign indignation and point out that his attitude and general disposition to dirt recklessness is tempered by the fact that he's on expensive loaners that he wants to be able to loaner again. Or his own 20k tractor.
Give me a bike that I'm not shitting myself about scratching up and I'll keep a lot closer to you cahants.![]()
But yer right that ktm wouldn't be it. A 3.5k Twin like that DR would. That would run 60 horsepower? TKCs and a trip to Norm Cobb and Like a bad suit, sunshine.
So we can confirm the 18th and 19th August for this ride?
Clint what is the maximum number that can be accommodated at the shearers quarters, as I am sure that this trip will fill up
Cheers
Dusty Butt 1000km - We knocked the bugger off what next?
Here here. When they start making a 18l tank for one my wife is working the streets till I can afford one - well maybe not. Serious cool toy but way more bike than I will ever be able to afford or need.
Ahhhh - very big single pot not a twin. 50hp according to the link. Pitty they didnt stick a twin in it but thems the breaks. An uprated DR Big chassis with a nice narrow angle twin i.e. in the middle between a weestrom and DR650 would be worth a test ride.

Thanks - I didn't look that closely - and I agree about the DL650 - but I Can't justify the expense (DL DR) - when it's the type of riding I do 5 or 6 days a year - and I already have a bike that's quite capable of doing it - just not as fast as my mates with dedicated 21" knobby machines (or they are freaks like Stretch.)
The buell would be as good on dirt roads as a wee - if you could get the *&^@#&) tyres. The only time I'd hesitate to take it off the seal is in big wet. And that's only because of the rubber.
I want closer to 300 than 200. Going to get a IMS for the DR when we get back from Sweden in October.
Swap them for their bike i.e. give them the buell and then see who's the "slow" one - oh wait that may back fire![]()
One day I'll get to the other island for a ride with you guys. This trip looks like it will cover some interesting ground - down the middle of the Hui/Rauku ranges.
Cheers R
