    African Odyssey Trip

Just reading the latest Uni of Canty College of Engineering Bulletin (they usually go straight in the bin) and saw a article on the back about four guys from Whakatane riding from Cape Town to London. They've titled their adventure the African Odyssey and their web site is here.

I've not read much of it yet but it sounds like there may be a doco of their trip on the box at some stage. Some short vids and a online diary on their page.

Not sure about the comments that most wouldn't even ride their bikes to the cow shed - a TTR20 raid, XR250 Baja, Dominator and KLR650 - they all seem pretty reasonable bikes to me???

    Cheers R

I agree, sensible bikes that can do the business.
Rather one of them than a two wheeled battle ship that you can't pick up/throw around.

    Bike condition probably the issue.

After reading a few of their blogs I think the condition of the ride rather than the ride type is the issue. Have a similar experience with mountain bikers and those who spend a $1000 on a second hand Shimano XT equipped bike which is completely flogged when a brand new deore level bike would give them trouble free use. Not saying I would attempt a tour like that on the GN but If it was brand new would have more confidence in it than using a 1990 tourer with 100000km on the clock.
