Yep, there's bound to be 1 or 2 who can't make it, there's also the option of coming along & staying at the Matawai pub as I assume Goblin & Young1 are planning to do, you'll just have to get away 45 min before the rest of us to meet up on Sunday am.

You guys are already on the waiting list. You'll only miss the last 9km of road into the station if you stay at the pub, the pub has a good bar & does a good feed, never stayed there myself. Closer to the time I'll send out detailed instructions on how to get to the meetup point for any pub dwellers.

The 1st post has now been updated with distances & a map.

On the Sunday night we will more than likely be staying in Taupo, can anyone suggest a good motel (not too expensive) that is bike friendly (eg can hide the bike away somewhere)?

Sorry guys, but I'm out for this one. Too many other commitments at the moment, with work, and we're behind on house renovations (first kid due in a couple of months). Running out of weekends.
