From Kawerau it would be around 45 minutes via Tanaetua and a little quicker through Whakatane Ohope on the main rd. If you where to go Kawerau- Tanaetua- Stanley rd - Opotiki then i would suggest 1 hr. They are logging on the first part of Stanley road about 6 km up so the surface is good but maybe some logging trucks- lucky as they use pitot vehicles in front, so some warning. The detours around Waiatahi would probably add another 10 -15 minues as well.

I'm not stalking Clint's thread, honest.

There's a BP station at Wairakei, on SH 5, about 1km south of the intersection with SH 1. And the pumps aren't on prepay
I think it's even got one of those wild bean cafe things attached to it.

edit: that's the SH 1 & 5 intersection just north of Taupo. Not the start-of-the-napier-taupo-road one.

We'll get wet going North on Friday, but I'm quietly confident that my arrangements with the big fella preclude anything but a stunner for the weekend

If I'm wrong we'll have a great time

Okay on that reassurance I will pack my sun block and sun glasses and leave the balaclava, wet weather leggings, 6 layers of clothing etc at home!!

Cheers for that, I was planning to leave Rotoiti at 8, so that should give us plenty of time to nip around the back of Rotoma & go through Stanley Rd.

    Cheers

    No probs

    Thanks

I have also just realised for all you guys on BMWs that we will be passing a KTM dealer on the way to Clint's, just in case you "see the light" and want to look at trading UP

I also realised that we will pass a large number of Pubs on the way that have Tui on Tap, so we might just stop and talk about this over a pint!!!.....YEAH RIGHT

That would be just fine; make me feel really sad!!!, no, really that would be good, however, if you are all doing the meet up at BP Wairakei for fuel after your re-group @ SH1/SH5 intersection, you can get all the food and coffee there you need!! You would need to detour away from SH1, say via Aratiatia/View roads to get across to Broadlands road then on to Reporoa.
From my place to Rotoiti you could take Goudies rd, Ngamotu rd, McKee( million $ highway- 'closed' to domestics(??) ) to Kawerau and then on down to the lake? Clint could verify if this would be 'wise'/feasable.
Let me know if yous want to do this and I will have the expresso machine primed ready!! Mrs mite do muffins!!

Will go up to Ashurst and via Pohangina Valley West Road and up to Karewarewa then Upper Kawhatau and end up somewhere around Taihape for the night.

Would like to meet up in Taupo - can someone txt (0274499115) me the final meeting place (BP station at Wairakei? 2.00 -3.00pm?) on Friday please.

look forward to seeing you all

I haven't been through McKee rd for ages, not sure what the security presence is like now, bikes are a bit obviously not forestry traffic. For a more legal option a Goudies - Northern Boundary - Ngamotu - Matahina - Te Teko - Rotoiti loop could be fun, probably about 3 hrs from Wairakei if going this way.

    Cheers

Is there anyone else heading South (Taupo or Napier) on Sunday?

If we run out of time on Sunday heading back and we cant do the Waipunga loop back to Taupo, I am keen to go that way anyway.

So if you are heading back to Taupo then tag along, you will enjoy the ride if time is against us as a group.

    See ye tomorrow
    Cheers Scott

Haven't heard from gunna or igor, are you guys still starters?

    Cheers
    Clint
