    1970 Honda CB750 K1.......

    Motorcycle imports in Ch Ch have one for sale,a 1970 done 9900 miles.....a real classic for sure,i am not up to speed with prices for these things but there asking $9000.......i guess you would get it for $8000.doesnt seem that bad for something like that or am i way off here ?

    I bought a brand new one in 1972 in Christchurch for $1,999 of course all the guy's I worked with thought that only an idiot would spend that much on a bike. They were right I sold it.

    Depends whats the bike worth to you? Can you afford it?


    Have a look at the auction sites around the world and see what they sell for.
    Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

    Seems like anything K0/sandcast seems to go for outrageous amounts on Ebay.

    The vendor imported about half a dozen

    Japanese classics from the USA. Good on him. Where are you going to find a clean unmolested CB750 in New Zealand?

    There was a tidy brown K2? sold recently on Trademe but that was the first honest one I had seen in about 4 years. Shame about the colour. So these bikes are pretty scarce in New Zealand now.

    Forget about a K0 unless you get really lucky or are prepared to take a punt and buy one out of the USA. I bought mine on eBay because I just couldn't find a K0 at all in New Zealand, let alone one for sale. And I spent 3 years looking.

    So I would say if you like the K1 that's for sale, go for it because you might not see another for a while. Good luck.

    My understanding (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) was that the earliest ones in NZ were K1, no K0s made it here.

    I've seen that bike it is in very good condition. Didnt hear it run, but it certainly looked like a very low miles unmolested one out of a shed somewhere. Had original pipes etc. If you want it, go for it. I was going to volunteer to ride it for delivery but maybe if it was after October......

    As to price, I paid $6500 about 4 years ago for a very nicely done (not restored but pretty close to it) K2 from a dealer. They're obviously more desirable the earlier they are..... whether this is worth that money to you is your call. My personal view is that the CBX he is also selling is better value (It had a buy now of $13k last time I saw it on tardme) but again, you'd have to want one.

    If you can cadge a ride on one that might be useful: the biggest difference between an old bike and any new one is brakes, second is cornering... plus they are heavy and underpowered (compared to anything new). A CB750 is something you could conceivably use every day (people DID, right?) but 214kg dry and 69hp, not to mention a 4 inch wide back tyre makes for a very differnet way of motoring than we're used to today.

    I really like my CB400F (I also have another one I'd sell....) as a "once a month, take it for a leisurely spin on a sunny Sunday" bike. Its got most of the performance but is a much easier to handle package....

    Heck, if you can afford it go for it. Better to buy something someone else has spent the money on. Saves you a lot of cash in the long run. Did you know that restoring the CB750 is so popular you can actually built a new one from new parts. Thought about getting a CB a couple of years ago and somewhere out there I found a site that has it all. Unfortunately I dont have it any more but do a google when its a lousy cold night and you'll find it. Tonights one for sure.

    I bought my K2 done up and it owed the guy nearly $10k: the motor alone cost the guy $3500 to rebuild.

    to echo the poster above its a hell of a lot cheaper to buy one done than do one up yourself.... but you might want to DIY it, that can be part of the fun also.
