    Carb balancing?

    Hi all,

wondering if ya'll could tell me how to know when your carbs need balancing? the reason i ask is that i'm getting hesitation under throttle a 3-4rpm at high revs its ok, also there is a strong fuel smell which indicates to me its running rich, and lastly a very rough idle,

Are these common signs that carbs need balancing?? if so how much does it generally cost to do?

There are a few things to sort out before balancing your carbs. I have the gear and can do it for you, but you would be wasting your time if there was a problem somewhere with the engine. Its not a big job and doesn't take more than an hour(hopefully)

I'd be looking for high float levels first, dirt in an air bleed or something of that nature. Unusual for carbs to get out of balance unless someone's been 'at them'. No harm in checking if you can get it done for nicks tho. It's a simple procedure.

I've got a similar problem. Bike feels fine though, no problems anywhere on the rev range, but it reeks of petrol and smells funky. I just recently had my carbs balanced by a shop.

your bike stinks after the shop worked on it, might i suggest they did it wrong.
