9 months ago we didn't own any motorbikes...

now we got 6

here is the latest addition



2002 1800km and in as new condition. My son Glen and I went 50/50. He'll use it instead of the vtr250 to keep me company on gravel wanderings and I'll use it in places that I am too scared to take the 660. Hopefully we'll pick it up tomorrow after work (there will be a fight to see who gets to ride it first).

Excellent, although how often do you really think he will let you use it? It will be nice to have a Two Stroke with us on the adventures!

We had one of these on the adventure ride we did last weekend. Was a very tidy example before the trip! It was even taken to the brass and managed to pass a harley!!!

I looked at that bike a lot on tardme. They look and sound like a whole lot of fun.

yeah - I've already been told in no uncertain terms that I won't be riding it home.

What worries me a bit is when Glen gets his confidence on it that I (on the 660) wont be able to keep up with him in the gravel - it feels like it will be quite flickable and it certainly isn't lacking in the go department.

Thanks for that - I'm sure that we will need info - I haven't owned a stroker for 25years so I have forgotten all the basics as well.

I am presuming that as its 5 years old - regardless of low mileage - that we should change all the fluids?

What oil do you suggest?

I have long given up trying to keep up with my son on his KDX200, we did Desert Storm a couple of years ago - that was when I realised he was much faster than me (although that would not take much!). It doesn't take long from showing a child how to use the clutch and gears, to helping them up hills etc, to suddenly finding that they are now roosting the old man as they pass at speed. All good stuff though

I have been using Castrol GPS for the gearbox / clutch & YamaLube semi-synthetic 2 stroke oil.

I have found a maker of sump bash plate for the DT in Aussie - would you be keen on one too? This is recconmended cause the starter is underneath.

thats just what my wife said....

Actually its not as good as it sounds as 3 of them are 200cc Chinese xr200 ripoffs that we brought for $1500 a pop last year - they will most probably all be completely rooted by Christmas (although we will certainly have had a lot of fun for our money - as they are so cheap they tend to get the 'ride it like you stole it' treatment).

Yes but I didn't expect the transformation to happen so quickly - within 4 months of us getting our trail bikes he'd gone from being way behind me to way ahead of me. It was the same when we brought mountain bikes ... kind of reminds you that your skills are plateauing while theirs are still ascending.

Got that bashplate cost, freight etc on my home computor, as looking to get one for mine. Will post info in the weekend, once I'm home.
Just had a carrier made for mine, handy for carrying the extra stuff on those longer adventure rides, especially extra fuel. If you want one lof these too, let me know.

There are heaps of oil threads on KB & the interweb. The ones I use work for my bikes - your call really.
