    cbr125

    hey guys,
Just want to get a guage of interest of what sort of price you would pay for a new one of the new CBR125's.

We all know that it won't be as fast as the current 150 2 strokers, and this isn't asking if you would race them, just after what you think would be a reasonable price. I mean reasonable price from what you actually get, a modern, good looking, fuel injected, reliable, new small bore 4 stroke road bike.

if you haven't seen it already, there is a link below.

Feel free to leave feedback on your thoughts on the bike, but please make sure it is constructive.

Of course, everybody's voting for "<$3500" because they'd want cheap, but you've got to be realistic. How much are GT250s and GT250Rs going for? About $6K, $7K? Now you've got a little sportsbike here with far more performance (and build quality) than a GN250, yet you think it's going to made available for less than one of those?

Red Baron should be able to price them at $10,500 easily.

Hahahaha, to bloody right! Should be a fun wee bike though,

Why buy a new 125 four-stroke, when there is plenty of choice in 250s?

Exactly. Of course we can only speculate as to whether Honda will release a 250cc version for their home market.

    One word..... Price.

    250's are too dear

    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

$4000 Australian, that's like $4500 here right? That's a good deal for a new learners bikes, I'm all for it

Might get other companies interested and start making their own. It'd be great to see some new japanese blood in the 250 market

Thanks for the replys so far, I wanted people to be as realistic as possible in this.

Obviously people will think that cos it is a 125 it isn't worth much, but to be honest it has the same technology ie fuel injection and metallurgy as other models.
Although it isn't as high tuned, approx 104hp per litre as apposed to the approx 180 hp per liter of the current big bikes.
The point of the bike is to be a commuter not a superbike.

I realise that some people wouldn't even concider a 125 for the road, that is not the point of the poll though.

I personally believe that around $4500-$5000 is a fair price for what you are actually getting. (i personally wouldn't buy one as i prefer bigger bikes, but that is what I believe that is what it is worth).

    Thanks for everyones input.

With a brand new Yamaha Scorpio (225cc?) going at under $4000, you should really only be happy paying more than that for the Honda 125 if the styling is really important to you. Does look nice though and I think I'd rather be seen on the Honda ... but how much more I'd be prepared to pay for that is the question.

I know its a 2 smoker and I have some history with the bike, buts its a sweet litte number and lots of fun to ride.

The girlfreind had one of these for two years in the uk as a learner (125cc limit). trying to campare it to my old RG125 from erm....14 years ago rather than the current bike...

+ve .....good, comfy, reliable, small, good build quality....indicators are good crash protectors (she proved this numerous times), nice looking, handle ok, good brakes...fuel guage...not really needed given the fuel ecomony...yes 100mpg is realistic! surprisingly high level of grip. Massively flickable between corners..

-ve.....very very light..so move a lot in cross wind/draft from trucks...and actually blow over off stand in storms....fairing looks nice but offers no protection at all (even for a sportsbike style). although it's a 'sports style' it's not up with things like an NSR...they're much bigger and sportier handling.
Suspension is very soft, with no adjustment..ok if your small, but if you're anything but a lightweight you may struggle..

top speed was a recorded 72mph....but you need a long run up, or possible a downhill with the wind behind you....you won't be overtaking anyone in a 100Kph limit....

IIRC There was a uk recall on the ignition unit due to cracking and moisture leaking. just check it's either not relevant or been done. Main thing is the engine is truly uninspiring...think a very dull CG125 and you'll be about right. you'll get away from the lights for about the first 10m or so, and then grandma in her civic will easily pass you.

I actually like them...as a learner bike, but you'll probably out grow it quickly, and also, think about what the resale is likey to be in a 250cc learner market?

The other thing as a commuter (i.e parked same place each day....outsise?) is that a nice small, shiny bike is very tempting for the yooofs to steal...looks nice to their mates, but not too scary for them to ride around the park/domain/whatever...
    just my 2c

Nice! A learner sized MODERN CBR!

Wish they made a 250cc export version. Theres no market for 250cc sports in Japan but there is in this part of the world, and probably other parts too.

It looks bloody nice for a smaller bike!
If it is possible to put a larger rear tyre on it and hide the awful mudguard/plate holder/shovel thingy... it would look even better!
With the purported demise of the GN looming, this would bee an option. Even better, would be a 250 version for the same price.
