Anyone with trailer advice?

Am looking at purchasing a new trailer - to tow the future Trail bike as well as general household rubbish.... am I correct in thinking that a 6 x 4 foot trailer will hold two bikes...???

Also...I have noticed there are a few importers of galvanised trailers which are a fair bit cheeper than locally made ones. Has anyone had any good or bad dealings with the imported trailers..??.

try calling Phil Williamson on 09 836 7047 he makes wicked 1,2 and 3 bike trailers you can even fold the long tow bar up for storage so it will stand end on against a wall

and i dont think they are too expensive

I thought the standard trailer size was 8 by 4??
And yes it would easily carry two bikes,just make sure there are decent tiedown points!!

I used a 6x4 trailer to carry two bikes for years but they are too short to fit the bikes in without having the front board swung open which is no big deal really. Now I have a Kea brand 8x5 (made in Hamilton and sold through agents Nationwide) and it will take 3 bikes with two touching the front board and one staggered in the middle touching the back board. (Dirt bikes I'm talking about here - probably not so easy for road bikes with their fairings.)

To ensure I can tie my bikes down easily with no slipping on the deck I have two small strips of timber bolted to the trailer floor for each bike i.e. that the tyres fit between. Then you just tie them at the high level and all stays sweet.

I would never buy a purpose built bike trailer because it wouldn't be any use for much else like carrying gravel or rubbish etc.

I liked the look of Kea trailers compared to other brands and bought it from Handy Rentals who is their agent in Wellington on Thorndon Quay under the motorway bridge.

I have to agree, I reckon a 6" trailer is too short. If you ever have to carry something else in the trailer with a bike (stands, jerry can, generator etc) it's nice to know that if something comes loose then the tail gate is still up an'or you don't have to tie down evry scrap of whatever you've thrown in the back.

+1 for the Kea 8x5 trailer. I have one and there's lots of room left over with two dirt bikes on. Three would be easy. Got mine 2nd hand for $700 and it's even got a spare wheel.

Check with Chanceyy... I'm sure she had one of those imported (Bunnings or similar) ones at Turangi. I was quite pleasantly surprised with the quality for a relative cheapie.

I built my own.

The front panel is either a board or a frame that locates the bike wheels. It's low. The tail board is steel frame and can carry a Goldwing if need be.

It's wide and can fit four trail bikes (by design!). Less than $1000 and it's set up for brakes as well (haven't connected them yet - only had the thing 6 years)

In my limited experience a conventional 6 x 4 trailer is too short.
Recently purchased a 7 x 4 to carry 2 bikes & can close front & tail door.
Mate has 8 x 5 trailer with easy room for 3 or 4 bikes
