Clutch broken HELP!

Hi,

I was wondering if there were any bike mechanics willing to give me a hand.

I went for a ride today on my bike with a kb rider, and my clutched stuffed up...

I got it towed to my house where it is sitting so I really need someone to have it looked over.

Please pm if you can help or can help with any idea about costs.

Or have you been riding the clutch and now worn out the actual clutch?


Need better description of what was happening at the time.
Sound/noise of it as well.

True, but some riders have other bikes (not all listed).
Hence me putting up what bike it actually is.


Plus FROSTY has started a 'sticky' thread in most mechanical sections and been asking people to list up the bike name and cc size etc etc when starting out a thread so that many posts don't go by with out anyone knowing what the bike is.

That way people can give out the right type of info to the person asking for help.

I need to take it into suzuki colemans though for a full service/ wheels/clutch

wonder how much that will cost

What happened was that the Clutch itself has been worn out. I didnt know until my kb mates that came over told me. Oscar and James, so now I know its the cable.

What happened was I was going up the hill from Motormail, I thought it was first gear but really i was trying to go up in second, so i must of reved it too much which must of worn out the clutch.

AFter that I was riding it free style with absolutely no pull on it....

Now: after James fixed it temporarily, it will be sitting in my garage until when I can get to suzuki colemans to get them to do a full service/wheels and change the clutch.

I just hope it doesnt cost a fortune....

So are you saying its the cable, or are you saying that by going up a hill in too high a gear, you were slipping the clutch and revving the motor, and thus cooked it? If it is option b, there would be strange smells, and maybe odd noises, the bike would start but the clutch wouldnt work: the driving and driven plates would spin uselessly even with the lever out. Is that what happened? you can ride a bike with a broken clutch cable pretty easily... just run it along and when its going, jump on and clunk it into gear... then clutchless gearchanges up the box.... traffic lights and stops are a pain but it might get you home or to a shop if you're careful. Peak hour traffic isnt the time to learn how to do this by the way.

it the thing is sitting there, why not whip the side cover and cable off, and have a wee looky? You may end up where I did with my bike, taking the thing to someone AFTER I did that, but at least you would have spent an entertaining couple of hours.....

It was that one
I adjusted it, but I had to let out about 10mm of cable to get it set right. It's as far as the cable will go now.

So it's the clutch cable? If so, you haven't blown up the actual clutch (that's inside the engine), and it should be pretty cheap. Clutch cables seem to go for anywhere between $30 and $60, fitting it should be negligible.

De-stress Cables seem to be a consumable to some degree, like tyres or brake pads, except they should last a bit longer than that.

sorry let me make it more clearer, I am still a bit shaken.

The clutch cable is fine, i believe its the clutch plates it self that i think have been worn down.

Chris are you a suzuki shop ?

wellington motorcycles just quoted me $75 for a clutch for a GN250 - which i would assume would be one of the easiest to find parts for... hope yours is cheaper than that. gonna cost me $200 all in to get it fixed (including bending of the handlebars back apparently - didnt realize they had moved...O.o).

After opening the clutch and checking it, we concluded that the clutch has plenty left at least 2.80 mm

and yeah it was just badly adjusted
