Price advice for nubbie needed

Hi guys ok well I am coming up for getting my first service done...

I need to get the following

1. Full service-
2. Clutch- checked- may need to replace the plates
3. Tires- Need them replaced

Specs of my bike

Suzuki Gz250 - year 2003

Please help me out any advice/ price ideas etc...

Suzuki coleman is going to charge me 180 dollars for a bloody full service- just oil and filter change ... not even the cost of spark plugs etc.....

How about doing the oil and filter change yourself?
Oil approx $50.
Filter <$20.

Nice saving there, and easy to do.

Plugs, <$10 each. Do them yourself (get a motorbike plug spanner from Supercheap for less than $10 if you don't have one).

You don't need high performance tires for your GZ. Don't throw money away on $300 ones. Just get some cheapos - Less than $150 each?

Clutch plates - are you sure? She's a pretty young machine.

Ok well i realy dont have any idea on how to change the oil nor the filter, but i am willing to learn. The clutch plates well i am not sure about that either I need to have a mechanic, or someone who knows to have a look at it.

Tires- well what would you recommend.

Get the thickness off the plates from a mechanic, then just buy a cheap set of verniers ($2 even have em) and check the thickness yourself. I would be supprised if you have chewed through more than about 0.2mm myself as my poor RG only lost 0.1mm in 2 years of burnouts.

This weekend james is coming down to look at my clutch pltes so we will know if its worn out or not

Do a quick search on motorcycle oil change. From memory the GZ uses the same engine as the GN, so a change should be very straight forward. Oil recommendations, amount are in your manual.

If this is the first service for a new bike I don't think you'll need to worry about your clutch plates. More likely you'll just need to check your clutch lever adjustment.

All of this should be covered in your manual (if you have one). Otherwise have a quick search on the net and see if you can find one.

It will work out a lot cheaper if you can perform the basic maintenance yourself. Believe me once you've done the first oil change it's a piece of p@$.
