    New bike for wife

I am looking into getting a bike for my wife. I was wondering what peoples opinions of the yamaha st225 bronco are.

Looks like it is powered by the same engine as the scorpios, but has less parts to damage if binned. Also the price is quite appealing.

I have not seen your wife but I'd certainly expect a better bike than that for mine in a straight swap...

    ;-)

Seriously though - you might want to ask the seat height and check it's going to be suitable. Also - what are you going to use it for? I doubt thats going to be much chop on the open road...

    Cheers

Looks like a sort of retro styled XT - if it has the XT motor it will have a 6 speed gearbox instead of 5 speed like the Scorpio has. Shouldn't be too bad a bike says he whose Mrs has a 2006 XT which has been a good bike.

Seat height shouldnt be a major at 79cm. I am mainly concerned about the top speed. It would be solely to learn on, and wouldn't be on the open road often. Would ideally like a top speed of 130ish, something that can handle short stints on the motorway, but mainly to be used for commuting.

Hmmmmm where do you get a new wife for the bike. Is there something in the RAT catalogue for the 675?

Looks like a nice little bike.
The XT225 has enough go to cruise at 100 comfortably - I'm a bit of a nana so I didn't want to go much faster, but the revs weren't terribly high, and I think I was only in 5th, so there would have been a bit of power in reserve. If the ST has the same engine it should be sweet for the open road and motorway.

Thats a cool little bike Kave.
Got Kanny a little Volty yesterday. Also a neat beastie.
I think it would be a safe, fun machine to learn on. Price seems about right for condition/mileage.

How much input does your wife have in this ... I know that I would not want my partner to choose a bike on behalf but to have input into the decision I make on what I ride

Yeah she can have an input. The guy selects a couple of bikes that he wants Mrs Biker to ride....then she chooses from that short-list. I was a little dissappointed initially when Mrs Wannabiker chose a FXR 150 over a CBR250RR or a FZR 250...but shes happy on it, and thats the main thing. At least I managed to steer her away from a GN250!!!

She has told me that she would rather I picked one for her, as she feels that I would have her best interests at heart and am likely to pick one based on factors other than appearance. She asks me to do the same when she is buying a new cage as well. I will get her opinion on whether she likes what the bike looks like, and will check that its not too tall for her.

FWIW that looks awfully like a Japanese only version of the SR250. I think all the Japanese manufacturers produced dirt track styled bikes for their local market.

If it's been serviced and looked after it'd be a cool intro to biking, just a bit slower than some other bikes.
