    Replacing linkage?

do you have to remove swing arm and subframe to replace linkage bearings, might have a go at it myself?

no, and no. but it helps to undo the bottom subframe bolts and possibly rear muffler and possibly side panels to get at the top shock mount.

and it also pays to remove and lube the swingarm bearings too, up to you how far you want to go

I would remove the subframe, its only 3 bolts plus the carb boot, and the muffler usually just slips of the pipe. Then remove the wheel and shock and remove the swingarm and work on the linkage on the bench.

Twice the displacement, twice the cost and a decibel problem, I'll pass on the inside brraaaap!!!
